1st Fanfic on AO3
Okay, so I've finally started posting one of my fanfics. As I wanted to waffle more in the author notes than I had currently written in the story, I thought it best to post the long version of the author notes here, and a link to it in the story. So, here goes:
I’m not expecting anyone to be reading this, so if you came here from the link in my author notes, welcome, I’m about to babble.
I’m basically addicted to fanfic. I have read so much over the years, in a variety of fandoms. I have written a lot of stuff, many of which I finished in my head, though not necessarily on paper. My stuff is usually rather Mary Sue in flavour, as I write based on my current fru (read: hunky obsession), hence my reason for not posting any online before. However I do occasionally have an idea for a slash story with just the canon characters, and this is one of them.
If you look at my AO3 bookmarks, you will also notice that they are rather heavily leaning towards Teen Wolf. This is my current obsession, and I only recently decided to start using the bookmark function, but I have been in fandoms since Highlander: The Series first came on the air. (Which was before some of the Teen Wolf actors were born, eeek!)
Some shows/fandoms I have been with from the beginning (Highlander, Stargate SG1, LOTR, Lost, The Young Riders), and some I have been playing catch up with (Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Doctor Who, Sherlock). These aren’t all of my favs, but a smattering to give you an idea.
This fic came about after my meltdown at Hoechlin’s announcement that he is not in Season 5, and I then had a deep desire to fix the decline of Sterek in canon. I have been through many shocks with fandoms (warning, spoilers ahead), from the death of Tessa in Season 2 of Highlander, Daniel’s departure and return in Stargate, the loss of Charlie and the total WTF of Lost, through the complete bizarre treatment of Dean in Supernatural (Sam’s troubles last either half or an entire season, but Demon!Dean is cured in 3 episodes? C’mon, I’ve read fanfics that find better ways to deal with that). But nothing has hit me so hard as that announcement that Tyler would not be a season regular, and the subsequent reports that he has not been seen on set AT ALL yet, so it is unlikely we will see Derek in season 5. I have recently binge watched Teen Wolf 3 times after being introduced to it, and was psyching myself up for Season 5. I am totally a Sterek fan, and I had my thoughts on why it wasn’t (yet?) canon (see below), so I wasn’t against Stalia, but after reading recent fandom reports on past dealings with cast, I have come to the conclusion that Jeff doesn’t actually care much about the fans at all, and is just doing whatever he feels like, without much regard for us or the cast themselves. While I love the show dearly, I think there is going to be a huge drop off in viewers when people realise that Hoechlin, JR and Ian Bohen are gone. The ‘focus on the teens’ is a cop out, they just want to replace some of the higher paid stars, and maybe find a way to continue after this year, as the main group will need to split up to head to college, so where would the story be?
Re Sterek: I only started watching late last year, so I missed all the Sterek campaigns etc. I have gathered from fandom that there was a lot of hype, and that the network and Jeff rode that wave to gain popularity. However, despite the (apparent) willingness of the cast, they cow-towed to norms, and gave them both hetero love interests. One possible thought on this was that Stiles is essentially underage, and Derek is most certainly not, so while it is okay to show love scenes between characters that are both under 18, you can’t have a network condoning a 16-year old kid being romanced by a 23-ish-year old (however old Derek is?!). Understandable. However I still then question the whole Stalia thing, and only one other fic I’ve read has expressed my same concerns, that she was basically 9 years old when she turned coyote, and has only been human again for a few months, so what does that say about her emotional development? Stiles is therefore dating someone no older than 12! I also think it would have been very forward of them to develop a Sterek storyline, with a young man questioning his sexuality, and another young man finding love after so many people using and abusing him for their own means. It could have been a difficult and testing storyline for the two actors to tackle, and to have 2 leads in a show have a relationship when they are not the ‘stereotypical token gay’. But, with Dylan’s recent rise to fame in Maze Runner, I think his agents might have squashed any such ‘potentially damaging’ themes. Hey guys! Supernatural has survived 10 seasons, despite much of fandom rooting for either Destiel or Wincest!! (And some even firmly believing in J2, even if they are married with families now.)

So as mentioned before, the title of the work is from Imagine Dragons' "It's Time". This is my favourite song right now, and I picked it up from watching Sterek fanvids on YouTube, so it is appropriate in many ways (and does actually fit the story). I may delete the Chapter Titles, as I'm making them up as I go along, and might think them too lame.
