Friday update #2-
1. OK- not a good week job application-wise. Still, not a bad week getting-a-job-wise. I had an interview on Monday with the firm I wrote to from craigslist. I really liked the partner I met with and we seemed to hit it off well. I got a call tuesday night asking me to come in for a second interview- on wednesday. I couldn't do it because I was going to go to a workshop wednesday afternoon, and all day thursday I had the mandatory professionalism course for VA, so I did it today. Had my second interview, which didn't feel as nice and squishy as the first, but I'd say still not bad. While I had a conversation with partner number one, partner number two sort of talked at me until partner number one (who was running late) came in and started asking me questions and letting me get a word in edgewise without being rude. Keep your fingers crossed for me- I'm really hoping for this one. Also, yesterday, I ran into the ffx county public defender, chatted with him a bit, and found out that he's hiring. He wrote down his email for me to send him my resume :)
I also came to a realization through listening to todd the pd speak on thursday. I am a lawyer. I am certified to take court appointed criminal cases. I know how to do legal research. I know how to learn about procedures. I can even go to court and watch. I can ask the bar association for a mentor. I can get my act together and go out and be a lawyer. It's scary, but true. If I don't have any good, solid job leads by the end of the month (like 2 weeks from now). This is what I will do. I'm also going to look into getting trained as a mediator and GAL, they get paid a bit more and still get cases sent in from the courts.
2. Still have to wait until next wednesday.
3. Apparently this takes quite a long time, once you've filed your paperwork. I'm going to call it mission accomplished since I know I'm eligible and there's no real dirt for them to dig up on me.
4. I'm bad. I didn't go to chorus this week. I was PMSing. I didn't feel well. I dreaded having to deal with not being able to pay for music. I stayed home with Austin. I made soup (that he so artfully said looks like vomit). I got a call back for that interview. Not missing the call was worth not going to chorus.
5. I didn't meet my goal, but I did play more this week than last. One evening- tuesday maybe?- austin and I sat down with the two guitars that live in the living room and played together and had a blast. I am still a little jealous that he could just pick it up and learn to play like that.
6. Nothing new here. I'm still going to help susan next thursday.
7-8. No progress here as I still have no job. In other financial news, my big private loan that's half my student debt comes due when the grace period ends on february 20. Unless some stuff happens quick I'm going to have a $600 payment starting in march and no $ to pay it. I think I might ask for a forbearance. They'll want to know why I haven't tried to get temp work.
9. Not such a good week for this. I only exercised once. I didn't eat terribly most of the week, but I didn't eat well either. Lots of contributing factors, still no excuse.
10. I tried to make friends with another unemployed girl on thursday, but it didn't go so well. I did run into neil and kate from school. Neil says he'll email me. I think I'll email him and email kate too. Maybe we can hang out or something. I dunno. Blech.
