Hmmm. She's obviously getting developed as a recurring character -- instead of Creepy Girl Who Likes Cute Things, she has a backstory and a full personality now, as well as a definitive attachment to Harry. I also note that we've been ramping up to apocalyptic directions for a while, with the Red Court war machine and the Outsiders and the Black Council starting to move openly (and the traitor in the Council going on the offensive, if the latest book is what I think it is.) The purpose of The Archive is to preserve human civilization in the event of an apocalypse. I'm starting to wonder if we're going to see her responsibilities conflict with her loyalties to Harry -- or if she's going to be called on to fulfill her primary function.

(I also think we're going to see her next as a preteen or teenager, ie, in a few books, since that's Butcher's minor-character pattern. Which could be amusing, because Kincaid is the Scariest Parental Figure Ever.)

Hmmmm. Who do you think is the traitor on the Senior Council? I'm pretty sure we know who they all are.

I don't think that it's the Merlin, simply because he is the Authority Figure McDouche type of character that we're supposed to suspect because he just plain isn't likeable. And Butcher is more subtle than that (hahaha HARRY'S MINDWIPE).

On the other hand, I don't think it'll be Ebeneezar because he's too likable. He kind of screams "TRUSTWORTHY" the way characters like Elaine, the Carpenters and company do.

Injun Joe is a nice guy and I like his raccoon.

At this point, my money is on the Gatekeeper. If I remember correctly, here we have a guy who should be keeping people from mucking with things like Outsiders--and yet the Black Council is carrying some Outsider muscle. He's likable in that way manipulative evil guys tend to be with Butcher, but we don't really know anything about him. Which is kind of suspicious.

Granted! Butcher said there's, what, thirteen more books? That's a lot of time for him to develop the characters of the other members of the Senior Council so that they can get some spotlight time, either as trustworthy wizards or bad guys.

Let's go for the inappropriate sports reference for this question: Picks for the new Knights! Who is on your dream team? Because Butcher's bound to give those swords to somebody sooner or later.

....you know, that makes sense. Also note, although I doubt Butcher would make things this obvious (LOL MINDWIPE god that was beautiful), that the Gatekeeper is noted for going around in a hooded cloak, so that his face is rarely seen. And who else, I ask you, is noted for this? Yeeeah.

I concur with it being neither Merlin nor Ebenezar, particularly since we already went through a big crisis-of-faith arc with the latter and we're being almost set up to reconcile Harry with the conservative elements of the Council in the next book. So yeah, I'll agree on the Gatekeeper until Butcher give Ancient Mai some development.

Hmmmm. It's really hard to say -- we haven't encountered many other Knightly types who aren't already wearing other hats. I'd kind of love to see Charity take up Faith, because she's ridiculously badass already and that' really her virtue. As for Love...I'm horribly, horribly tempted to say Thomas even though I'm pretty sure being a vampire disqualifies him. (Then again, if being an ex-Denarian didn't disqualify Sanya...) There aren't many other really good candidates, though, since Murphy turned hers down -- quite a few that would make me laugh, but none that make me go "hm, this is possible."

What do you think the Black Council's ultimate goal is? We know Cowl's personal goal was to eliminate death itself -- I really kind of love Cowl -- but not whether his merry band of badasses concurs.

I was actually thinking Thomas would be a great one for Love. And really, the White Court is the most human of them, so if any vampire were allowed to wield a holy blade...granted it's already canon that Thomas doesn't even like hanging around churches, so. Justine might be another good choice for Love, though. This is just one of those topics that sticks in my head because it seems like Harry finally got something to work with on choosing someone in the last book.

As to the Black Council's goal, I'm still really liking the idea that they're out to flip all the established powers over. The supernatural community is one that just doesn't change, right? I think someone or something got tired of it just being the same old same old. The fairies are balanced and lying to you with the truth, the vampires are ruled by the same old rulers, the Denarians are still out to trigger an apocalypse, etc. I figure at some point it'll come out that this is their goal, and Harry will have to struggle with "there's good things about changing this, there's bad things about changing that."

Is Molly allowed to get you a kitty for Christmas?

Yeah, the church thing is what I was thinking of when I was leery of suggesting it. But that could just make Thomas flail amusingly, really. I'd also thought maybe Justine, but she's a sociopath when she's not on her meds. If it has to be a royal line, though...well, that makes Thomas a better choice, since he's the eldest son of the White King.

Supernatural anarchists? I could see that, but it doesn't really seem...satisfying to me, per se? But we don't have a whole lot of information and that makes as much sense as anything.

YYY.

What does Molly think of the Mara brothers?

Yeah, Butcher has this way of taking things and making them SO MUCH MORE EPIC. XD

...Who are the Mara brothers again?

Yeah, I know. He does it even more in the high-fantasy series. Which reminds me, someone needs to app Tavi once he stops getting retconned.

Stiaan and Mikah. XD

I still need to get around to reading that.

Ohhh, for some reason I was thinking it was a band or something. They're a weird ping for her senses! Stiaan seems kind of cute in that gigantic word kind of way. But Mikah is an ass, and he questions Harry as her teacher, which kind of automatically shoved him into this category for people who get snippy-teenager responses. XD She does not know they are brothers (they are, right?) and doesn't really understand what they are, beyond vaguely angelic and therefore probably not beings to piss off (not that it'll really help with her responses when Mikah is being an ass).

So this sounds like fun--what character would you top me into apping? XD

Yes, you do. It's amazing.

They are brothers in a weird way! Mara are born fully formed from the severing of an angel's soul, so they're not biologically related -- they're not biological. But Stiaan and Mikah were born in the same day and the same hour, made by the same human mage; they were the first beings either laid eyes on, and that's as close to brotherhood as Mara come.

Hmmmmm. So many choices...possibly Tazendra Lavode, because we desperately need one, or possibly an Antillar Maximus double app if I ever decide I want Tavi. Reverse question?

...oh man, wiki suggests to me that I really need to get on reading this series. Because that sounds like a winning double app. XD

You know full well what Baldur's Gate characters I want (any) but that Edwin is probably right along the lines of your awesome spellcaster line.

So in the interest of interesting and new! Hmm. ...Most of my canons don't have epic sorcerers. I would like to suggest one of the Jedi from the Knights of the Old Republic games.

CORRECTION: What would playercest between your characters be like?

tarnished_salt September 30 2008, 04:58:47 UTC
Yes, you do. Max is made of win and awesome and occasional hidden emo.

....heee. I would possibly app one of the Jedi but i would also possibly app HK-47 first. Because I love him so. But all of this is unlikely because I fail at apping.

......INTERESTING QUESTION. Ivy would be Ivy. Morrolan would treat her like a tiny Sethra and Stiaan would be very interested in what she knew and could tell him about things, but would possibly be better at treating her like a very adult little girl than anyone else has been, since Mara sort of reverse her contradiction (eternal teenagers). Morrolan and Stiaan would...hmmm. They'd either bond over shared infovorism or sort of get bored with each other very quickly.

I also fail at questions.

Ah, another point that just occurred to me about why it can't be the Merlin: the Black Council seems to be all about shaking up the order of the powers that be in the Dresden Files world--they give the establishment the finger and cross everyone, good and bad. The Merlin tends to come across as a stickler, conservative kind of man who generally wouldn't go for change. It even shows in his tactics at war.

Yeah, he's a defensive boy through and through. Ward specialist and all, plus being old and wedded to the traditions which grant him power and privilege. Not the type to go around smashing things.
