Fandom Update

Jun 18, 2023 22:18

CURRENT FANDOM CHALLENGES:

I have been working almost flat out for the past 3-4 days on website stuff. It's annoying that, once more, another week has gone by and I have had no chance to write.

comment_bingo ROUND 3 CARD 3 - 1/25

I decided to create a file listing all the comment bingo recs I have already made to avoid duplicating! It was getting too hard going back through every card every time I wanted to fill a prompt on a new card. I did spot a few duplicates. I plan to complete this card before the end of this current round on Jun 30th - having my list of recs made will help immensely :)

lands_of_magic ROUND 11

I didn't bother with Challenge 12 as I am useless at making fanmixes and my brain wouldn't wrap around it. I've made my requests for Challenge 16 Unbirthday, but will not be filling any until later this week.

12: WE ARE THE MUSIC MAKERS DID NOT COMPLETE
14: CAMPING SUPPLIES JUN 30
15: LYRICAL JUN 30

landofart PHASE 20

Created 2 bookmarks, 1 colorbar, 2 GIF sigtags and a picspam for Challenge 14. Created 8 icons for Challenge 9 Round 4. I managed 5/6 entries for Challenge 15 and was too tired to even push on to make a single icon to complete it. I have the final round of COLOR BATTLE to go and will work on them next.

09:  COLOR BATTLES (ROUND 4) DONE
09:  COLOR BATTLES (FINAL ROUND) JUN 21

WEBSITES:

I am still focusing HARD on the David Hewlett website so I can prepare it for a move to the other webspace.

Most of the following will have to wait until I make the time to think it all through:

1. Scan/Upload clippings and other articles:

2. Reduce the overall number of files: So far saved around 6500 inodes (file/directory markers)

3. Sort out the eFiction archives:

4. Make sites mobile friendly:

5. Add items to empty albums: Ongoing on the David Hewlett archive though I had no time to do anything again this week.

Please remember to check out the GALLERY and FICTION archives for any new items/stories posted as I don't tend to change the website UPDATE pages for these.

David Hewlett Archive: Updates

I spent several LONG days on this and I'm feeling shattered now.

- reduced file counts on all but the episode screen captures for Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis and Traders
- added new images I came across that had not been uploaded
- copied all archive files across to the main webspace
- updated the Coppermine database with all the new Hewlett info
- installed the Coppermine gallery software
- verified that the gallery is accessible via the subdomain Gallery on SANLYNDA web space
- pointed davidhewlett.co.uk to the new web host. Unfortunately, as the old and new web spaces are with the same web host I may have to wait for them to remove the account before I can complete the redirection properly.

TO DO:

- complete set up of the domain name (davidhewlett.co.uk)
- eventually, reduce the file count in the Stargate Atlantis and SG1, and Traders directories.
- add more new images/screen caps! I found directories full of images I had not sorted through. I made time for some of them but others require a bigger block of time so will have to wait for now!

BOOKS/FAN STUFF **** POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT ****

FANFICTION: Had a chance to read a few Joe/Nicky, The Old Guard stories.

BOOKS: I finished reading Surviving the Evacuation book 7 by Frank Tayell. Just got to decide whether to start on Book 8 or follow the series chronologically and start on a different series by same author.

----------------------------
TV SHOWS and MOVIES **** POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT ****

MOVIES: I needed to lose myself in some disaster movies over the past two weeks! I cannot recall which it was but one of them had 'handheld camera' shakiness about it that became really annoying.

Ring of Fire - Parts 1 and 2: Overall this was not a bad miniseries/movie with a good cast and some reasonably good special effects. The first part was a slow build up, perhaps a little slower than I might have preferred but it introduced all the characters well so you got to care a little bit about each of them. The second half was more action sequences and more tension - bit slow in places, trying to stretch the tension too far but overall it was a good one.

Meteor - Parts 1 and 2: This was a little older than the other. Special effects were okay but it tried too hard and had too many contrived moments as if the writers wanted to throw in as many cliches and tropes as they could recall. It detracted from the movie making me hit the fast forward to go through some of the dull melodrama moments.

Old: This is an M. Night Shyamalan movie and it was a great concept from a graphic novel and overall an interesting, intriguing movie. It's basically a horror about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly, reducing their entire lives into a single day. Overall it was a good movie but it suffered from weird camera movement/scene shifting. I'm not quite sure what the director was hoping to get but it was like having intermission breaks that threw you out of the flow of the movie. The whole set up was interesting, as to why these people were at this resort and why they had been taken to that particular beach - intriguing yet immoral. So glad the siblings figured it out and managed to escape. Quite horrifying that when he went to the beach that morning he was 6 years old but by the time they escaped he was in his 40-50s.

65 Million Years Ago: Even though people might argue about the film maker using old-school dinosaurs (without feathers/colors) I could see past that to enjoy the movie overall. I liked the girl in the movie too, and the language barrier they had to overcome. I found it amusing that his ship was the catalyst in setting off a sequence of events to cause the meteor that would end the reign of the dinosaurs :) There was some creepy moments in the cave, and a nasty bug moment!

FANVIDS: Nothing this week

----------------------------

TV SHOWS:

Dead City: This has been advertised forever and finally arrived. Maggie is putting a lot of hope on Negan being able to help her get Herschel back. Felt sad for the two New Babylon deputies. I want to believe the 'sheriff' is a good guy at heart but what he did to that woman makes me concerned about his character. I suspect it is a lot of frontier justice, which is why Negan must have killed a few of them, likely to avoid being killed in the name of their new laws.

Fear the Walking Dead: I caught up on episodes 5 and 6 and overall it was okay. Hopefully Morgan has 'cleared' himself, and now he is heading back to find Rick! Madison is planning to help the others make PADRE what it should have been rather than the perverted idea from Shrike. I was sorry to see June's treatment fail for Dwight and Sherry's kid (Finch) and so sad they have decided to part ways.

Star-Crossed: I still need to watch the final 4-5 episodes.
