Sunday Update - Fandom
Here is my weekly FANDOM update... except this is closer to a MONTHLY update as I have been so caught up with other stuff recently.

Nothing posted so far so I have decided to extend this into July in the hope that I'll be able to create something for this character. I need to put up a post on the community.

The work and author reveals came and went :) I received a wonderful, fix-it story from a lesser known movie called The Guardian:

I was hoping to get some free time over the past 2 weeks to start writing more fills, but events conspired against me, and I've been struggling to write anything recently. However, I have managed ONE fill so far:

fandomgiftbox 2017 - COMPLETED - 0/??
Sign-ups have already closed for this. I did deliberate over whether to sign up or not as last year only a few of the people participating bothered to fill even a single other gift box, which really isn't in the spirit of this. But what can you do? I decided to sign up as even if I don't get the opportunity to fill more than 2 or 3 gift boxes, I will have still made more effort than most people!

I couldn't resist doing this again this year. I have received my assignment and there are a couple of options open to me. I offered one of them, though it was WAY down my list of things I was prepared to write. The other is a show I haven't watched in 10 years but it intrigues me.

11. primeval-denial - 52 Weeks - Minor Characters
Some time back I offered to host MINOR CHARACTERS week. I plan to put up a post each day this week for Primeval seasons 1-5, Primeval New World, plus one final wrap up post. I spent my few remaining free hours this week preparing the first 5 posts. I still need to get day 6-7 completed. Hopefully tomorrow night as I have run out of time now.
DAY 1: Primeval Season 1

WEBSITES:
I started my 2 week leave with a major issue on the websites. Recently most of the webhosters have started limiting the number of inodes (files) allowed, and even though we have not used even 30% of our allocated filestore or bandwidth, I was receiving messages almost hourly saying we were at 100% of inode and MUST remove files or risk having our account suspended. Because of this I moved the David Hewlett Archive (60,000 files) to new webspace - at a personal cost! Yet the inode count was still high and climbing. After several frustrating days of deleting files and seeing no improvement I contacted the webhost Tech team and explained the problem, seeking advice and help. When they went looking they realized they had put the MySQL databases on a buggy version and 96,000 of my 250,000 inode was being taken up by small session files created every time someone looked at an image on the gallery - and never deleted after the session ended. They upgraded the MySQL to the next version and deleted all the old session files manually. Everything has been fine since *sigh*
I'm not regretting the decision to move the David Hewlett Archive as it would have had to move eventually - 250,000 is not that many files for an archive containing thousands of screen captures and I have yet to add all the Stargate Atlantis episodes (about 30,000 files including the thumbnails). I'd only kept the original images on my HD and discovered a problem generating ALL the thumbnails through Coppermine. My webhost kept terminating the process as it was too long but Coppermine admin has only 2 options for generating thumbnails afresh - ALL albums or a single album. I ended up doing it all manually, album after album for hundreds of albums :( Afterwards I copied down all the thumbnails from ALL the archives so I didn't have that problem again.
I was so relieved when the David Hewlett Archive was accessible once more. It was a long, hard slog and I suspect I still need to do some fine tuning in the control panel. I really could have done without this headache though!
Remember to check out the gallery and fiction archives for any new items/stories posted as I don't tend to change the website UPDATE page for these.
