(no subject)

I can't say I've been very productive today - I stayed up altogether too late reading last night, and just as I was trying to go to sleep a protracted raccoon fight broke out in my driveway/the neighbours' backyard, which is to say right outside my window. Then the garbage trucks arrived at the restaurants on the corner of Oak Square, and yeah, not much sleep. Plus, I'm at a bit of an impasse with putting together the two halves of what I planned to talk about in this chapter. I've arranged a meeting with advisor R tomorrow morning to discuss how to get out of it.

But in the meantime, on to happier subjects, namely, clothes!

Or actually, to begin with, shoes. Last year's shoes with the buckles are getting worn out, and the air pockets in the soles filled up with gravel while I was in Rennes walking on the gravel paths of the quartier Beauregard. I may be able to remove some of the gravel and get a little more life out of them, but I'm planning to adopt these ankle boots as their replacement.

I also need to replace the Black Flats of Pain, but I haven't decided on a replacement yet. Another pair of black shoes would probably be the best replacement, and probably a new pair of black flats that don't damage my feet whenever I wear them is the best option, but on the other hand there are universes of flat black shoes that aren't ballet-type flats. Oxfords? Loafers? SO MANY POSSIBILITIES.

Then, there is the subject of my true sartorial love, coats.

Unless advisor R advises me to take a break from the monastic vocations chapter I'm working on, I'm hoping to get it done in the next couple of weeks (ideally by September 10th). I am attempting to encourage myself in this process by promising myself that if I finish the chapter in a timely fashion, I can have this expensive and less than practical but unspeakably delightful velvet fall coat, probably in the orange or the charcoal grey (with the purple a strong third-place contender). I don't plan to bribe myself with coats for every chapter of my dissertation (if only I could), but this time I certainly am.

Of course, it's gotten all hot and sticky here since the weekend, so I'll be spending my first week back trying to scrape together department-appropriate outfits out of my summer wardrobe, and changing into them and out of my sweaty walking-clothes when I get to campus.
