Today, I feel in honour bound to post a correction to a post I made to facebook this morning.
Here is the erroneous version I posted of an introductory formula from the ninth-century charters in the first quire of the cartulary of the abbey of Saint-Sauveur de Redon:
Mundi termino adpropinquante ruinis crescantibus certa signa manifestantur...
Here is the corrected version:
Mundi termino adpropinquante ruinis crebrescantibus; iam certa signa manifestantur...
And the translated corrected version:
Since the end of the world is drawing near catastrophes are becoming frequent; already sure signs are becoming evident...
Obviously, this is what the ninth-century monks of Redon had to say in the introductory formulae of their charters on the subject of my feelings about dissertation-writing when I woke up this morning and was like... oh shit. I keep having these horrible moments in which I realize something close to exactly how much work stands between me and a completed dissertation, and they are, in a word, chilling. Mundi termino adpropinquante ruinis crebrescantibus is exactly how they feel!

In other news, because it was definitely cool and fallish today, and I found myself actually wishing for socks as I walked home in my flip-flops this evening, I'm contemplating getting
these shoes. Monk straps always speak to me! They've been speaking to me since my first pair of monk-strap shoes in something like Grade 9! Thus, these shoes speak to me. On the other hand, the makers of the Boots of Glory are now offering
these shoes, which also speak to me. As for the shoe-wardrobe niche currently occupied by the Black Flats of Pain, I'm considering
these shoes, probably in black, although the brown is also pleasing to me. Thoughts?
Tomorrow might be a day for the Boots of Glory. I have yet to decide what to wear, but on the bright side, I dedicated a couple of hours this evening (after putting off grocery shopping for another day and bringing home a delicious burrito for supper) to making lunch for tomorrow. At least I'll be well fed!
