I just got back from a super-nerdy expedition to the Boston Museum of Science with fellow medievalist JK, who is a member, and used her membership benefits take me to see a film at the Mugar Omnimax theatre there.
This film, the Rocky Mountain Express, aka a Vancouver-BC-to-Kannanaskis-Country-Alberta tour of the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline (and a detour onto the Crowsnest Pass) via a restored CPR steam train, plus the history of the construction of the CPR through BC.
ALL THE FEELS. ALLLLLLL THE FEEEEEEELS!
FRASER CANYON! KAMLOOPS LAKE! SHUSWAP LAKE! CRAIGELLACHIE! REVELSTOKE! ROGERS PASS! GOLDEN! THE KICKINGHORSE PASS! THE BIG HILL! THE SPIRAL TUNNELS! (Banff). I know all these places! I know all this history! This is totally my history!
So cool, and yet so weird, to watch it on an omnimax screen in Boston (and I was probably super-annoying to poor JK, as I was constantly like, "OMG THIS IS LIKE AN HOUR FROM WHERE I GREW UP!!!").
SO MANY FEELINGS. IS IT THE END OF JUNE WHEN I AM GOING HOME FOR REALS FOR TWO MONTHS YET??
