I've (metaphorically) landed in Paris! Actually, my train arrived yesterday around eleven in the morning, so I've been here for almost a day, but whatever. I seem to have done pretty well for myself accommodation-wise. The apartment I've rented is pocket-sized, and the entry stairwell is a little grotty, but it's otherwise cute and totally satisfactory, and in fact, the exposed rough-hewn beams in the ceiling make up for any and all deficiencies. Weak for woodwork, who, me?
The apartment is also alarmingly centrally located, in what, if yesterday's activity outside is any indication, is a seriously happening neighbourhood. Not actually my preference (I'd prefer something quieter and less crowded), but I can definitely deal for the week, and the fact that I can go down to the street and have my choice of dozens of restaurants within like, fifty metres, is nice! I plan to celebrate that by visiting the gelato place across the street, which is probably pretty good, judging by its huge lineup yesterday. Hopefully the weather will continue being spectacular for a few more days!
Anyway, I've now had sleep and a little breakfast and two cups of coffee the better to chase away any lurking friends of last night's headache (I ended up with a terrible headache from caffeine withdrawal and lack of sleep and probably too much sun in the past couple of days), and I've made a list of the most important manuscripts I have to consult at the bibliothèque nationale. That means it's about time to pack up all my technology and my passport and attestation (with university seal!!) from advisor R, and set out for le site Richelieu, which is, as far as I can tell, pretty close to the Louvre.
I'd better check that, actually.
If I leave right away, I'll have time to pick up second breakfast in the form of pastry on the way...
