I just got back from meeting with prof FM (at his sweet apartment downtown) about my translation, and the verdict is positive! I have some really minor changes to make, mostly a handful of short phrases I needed more information in order to translate, and some proofreading to do, but yay! I have areas of competence!

That said, talking in-depth about my translation, and explaining my thinking processes - ones that took place in the past - for over an hour, was exhausting. Not to mention the discussion of English-language equivalents of vocabulary related to French universities, which also involved translating between Anglo-American and French academia! All this without knowing the French word for tenure! Mentally-draining, thy name is trying to discuss complex academic topics in the past tense without screwing up grammar or pronouncing things so badly as to be incomprehensible. I suspect I did a fair amount of both, but hopefully without sowing too much confusion.

Now I think I'm going to have some tisane and the pain au chocolate I got at lunch but didn't have time to eat, and stare at the wall for a few minutes, before I go and do a little shopping. I'll be back later with further updates.
