This is a placeholder post for my dear yuletide writer letter. Nothing to see here at the moment.

Okay. Yuletide assignments are out, so I can't put off writing this any longer. Ideally, I'm also going to make it to the archives in time for the 1:15 (or more likely 1:45) levée de documents, which should hopefully prevent it eating up my whole afternoon.

Dear Yuletide writer,

First of all, thank you for writing for me, and I apologize if my prompts are intimidatingly detailed (or intimidatingly Canadian). I hope you'll be able to find something among them that you enjoy writing! I love all of these fandoms, and I'll be happy to get fic in any of them, even if if doesn't strictly adhere to the prompts. So if you're stuck, please feel free to get creative with my suggestions. The only thing I really must insist on is the "no Bruins" clause in my first request. Otherwise, happy writing!

I think my prompts cover most of whatever I might have put in a general comments section. I'm not sure, given my chosen fandoms, that I even need to add the disclaimer that I'm Canadian, but I'm Canadian. In the realm of further disclosure since two of my prompts potentially involve Vancouver, it's the closest major city to where I grew up and I'm pretty fond of it. The only other thing I can think of is that if you decide to take my prompts in a slashy direction, you definitely shouldn't feel compelled to write something explicit - whatever rating is comfortable for you or fits the story you're writing is fine by me!

Request 1:
Fandom: Hockey RPF
Characters: Kevin Bieksa, Alexandre Burrows, Johnathan Toews, Sidney Crosby

First of all, I am not expecting a fic that includes all four of these characters at once. Please feel free to include only one or two, or any other combination that seems good to you. However, I'm a Canucks fan, so if your preferred combination includes Jonathan Toews, I'd prefer that it not focus on the Canucks/Blackhawks rivalry. No hatesex please! And DEFINITELY no Bruins (I admit they're a very good team but the pain is still too fresh)! In this fandom, I really enjoy a good issue fic. I'd be interested in something about Kevin Bieksa and the Canucks dealing with the aftermath of Rick Rypien's suicide this summer, or about someone dealing with mental illness themselves (double bonus points for anxiety issues). Alternatively, I have a certain weakness for Sidney Crosby realizing he's bisexual/gay. If issue fic isn't your thing, I also happen to enjoy Crosby/Toews, and romance-type things involving virginal Crosby. But I like all these players, so like I said, feel free to include them in whatever numbers and combinations you prefer. I'm open to gen or slash, or for that matter, unrequited pining. If you do go for slash, all I ask is that you please keep in mind that Bieksa and Burrows are married in real life, and treat the existence of their wives with respect.

I feel like I already went into ridiculous detail here, so I won't add much more. But to restate a previous year's letter, angsty manpain, brotherly devotion, manly bonding, and not-so-brotherly devotion will always make me happy. This is hockey fandom, so obviously angst should not equal weeping at the drop of a hat, but by all means feel free to explore any aspect of hockey players' masculinity and its challenges.

Request 2:
Fandom: The Daring Game - Kit Pearson
Characters: Eliza Chapman, Helen Beauchamp, Madeline, Miss Tavistock

In this fandom, I'd love a futurefic! Does Eliza ever return to Ashdown? Is she ever reunited with Helen and her other dorm-mates, or other characters like Madeline, the older piano student she admires, or Miss Tavistock? I'd be happy with gen or femslash for this request - mostly I just want to know about Eliza further down the road to adulthood. And once again, you don't have to include all the characters I've requested. I'd like something Eliza-centric, but otherwise, it's up to you!

As fandoms go, this is so obscure as to hardly constitute one, and I don't think it received any offers this year (or last year), but if you're interested in exploring some Canadian kidlit, you can order cheap copies here. This story gave me a desire to go to boarding school that continued even past my graduation from high school! I'm now glad I didn't, but I still have a very soft spot for Eliza, who felt very much the same way I did about growing up at a similar age. As my request says, I'd love to see her later on, because as I discovered, growing up isn't so bad, and I hope it wasn't for her either. The only other thing to note is that the book is set in Vancouver in the 1960s, which isn't that important to the story, but which probably has implications for any kind of future setting.

Request 3:
Fandom: Canadian History RPF
Characters: John A. MacDonald, George-Étienne Cartier

I've slashed Sir John A. MacDonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier since before I knew what slash was, way back in the days of writing a report on Sir George-Étienne in my Social Studies 10 class and re-enacting him in our mock Confederation debate. If you've ever felt the need to slash some Fathers of Confederation, now is the time. There totally has to be a slashy story of hot nineteenth-century-Tory loving behind the fact that Sir John A. wept openly when he announced Sir George-Étienne's death to the House of Commons. I don't have any particular preference for the scenario, and there are obviously many possibilities - dramatic and triumphant moments surrounding Confederation! Angst and the assassination of Thomas d'Arcy McGee! Drunken shenanigans! The Pacific Railway Scandal! Whatever you prefer, go for it. I just want to see these two slashed!

As for this one, pretty much what it says. Again, I like manly bonding, angsty manpain, and brotherly and not-so-brotherly devotion, although in this case I'd be equally happy with angst or hilarious shenanigans. Again, whatever you prefer!

Okay, tea now, then archives. The 1:45 levée is still achievable...

yuletide
