(no subject)
So, I'm about to go to bed, and for the first time in something like three-and-a-half years, I won't have to braid my hair as I get ready for bed. There's still enough hair for a tiny braid in the back if I really wanted, but the front is too short to reach it. Plus, since it's no longer going to wrap itself around my neck and try to kill me in my sleep or get hideously hair-ripping-out tangled if I don't braid it, I'm not going to!
And with that, have some before-and-after pictures!
Before:
Looking deceptively tame, unsnarled, and shiny (it was actually quite wayward, tangle-prone, and fragile).
After:
Later in the afternoon, just before it got too dark to take pictures, in my Aran-knit sweater that does nothing for my coloring, but it was below 15/60 degrees in the kitchen at the time so I don't care.
I'm very pleased with it! The "after" pictures don't really do it justice. It's a little longer than I was envisioning, but I like that, now that it's all shaped so as to destroy its ability to become the dreaded Pyramid of Fluffy-Bottom Frizz. I think it will be curlier tomorrow after I wash it, because the hairdresser had to comb it a lot as she was cutting it, and then she put some Moroccan Hair Oil stuff in it and finger-twisted some of it. The hair oil is something I'm considering adopting (I think it would have been better if my hair had been wetter when she put it on), and while they're decisively curly, my curls are pretty feeble and don't stand up well to finger-curling. So I'll wash it as usual in the morning, and hopefully it will be curlier then. Unless it goes into shock and goes totally limp!!
In any case, I'm pretty excited to show up in the history department tomorrow. I've alerted some people, including my office-mate, to my plan, and if people have been following my facebook closely they should be aware of it, but we'll see if anyone is prepared for the full extent of the chopping! I must say that it did cause me a certain number of pangs and twinges to see all my curls lying on the floor of the salon, but I can't say at this point that I regret it!
