Happy New Year! I've finally joined most of the rest of the planet in 2011, after a quiet but enjoyable evening of Scattergories, local ice wine, and snacks with the parental units and Morgayne.
Now I'm about to go to bed, but first, the Yuletide reveal!
My contribution, under my AO3 username Monksandbones, as I think some of you suspected, was
La Chanson de Mont Gisard for
the_alchemist. Writing "12th Century CE RPF" turned out to be more challenging than I anticipated. I wasn't sure quite how to go about writing a satisfying story that was also up to my standards of historical accuracy! But I finally decided, aided and abetted and encouraged greatly by
ineptshieldmaid, to get around the problem of historical accuracy by writing it as a fake chanson de geste.
That turned out to be time-consuming and a little nerve-wracking, but again,
ineptshieldmaid did a fantastic job not only with beta-reading, but also with cheering me on and assuring me it didn't suck and wasn't offensive (I was quite worried about my portrayal of the Muslim characters). She read and handheld and commented on multiple versions as I gradually wrote it - first in bits here and there, and then from either end until I filled in the middle battle sequence. In the end, I enjoyed the process of writing it, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out! I'm delighted that other people have enjoyed it too!
Therefore, another round of enormous thanks,
ineptshieldmaid!
