So, despite the fact that I napped for two hours yesterday afternoon, which resulted in being unable to fall asleep until 2:30 this morning after finishing The Two Towers, progress.

As the situation currently stands, I've now acquired accommodation in Angers through the end of September. I've booked a private room in one hostel for my first five nights, and I've discovered another, an institution that seems to be part hostel (with very unglamorous but affordable private rooms!), part youth residence, and I'm going to attempt to book a room there for the month of October. I've currently got reservations beginning September 21st in its hostel section. Both hostels have a 15-night maximum stay, which could be a problem if I can't find anything else or if their rules don't allow me switch off between them, but my backup plan if the residence part falls through is to stay the maximum number of nights in the second hostel, which will get me close to the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend when I'm planning to travel elsewhere anyway, and then once I'm back, to stay the maximum number of nights in the first hostel.

That's all probably both complex and boring to anyone who isn't me and doesn't have to share my fear of ending up on a park bench, but it boils down to me having somewhere to go when I arrive. And it's reassuring to me to write it all down! Plus, now that I've started to get my accommodation settled (and am less worried about finding something I can afford), I'm feeling much more excited about the trip, and about everything else. Even my 5K on Sunday!

Now if only I can translate this into spending less of tomorrow having post-summer-catchup chats with people (I spent an hour talking to Prof G this afternoon) and more working on the whole preparing for the archives part of my trip thing.
