So, life looks rather better from this side of my first day of discussion sections this semester than it did last night, although not quite as much better from the perspective of the 184 pages of Susan Reynolds, Kingdoms and Communities in Western Europe, 900-1300 I have yet to read, the review paper I need to have written about it by Wednesday for advisor R, and the preliminary bibliography I have to take to French prof B, also on Wednesday. Today's feeble post-teaching productivity has consisted so far of reading 50 pages of Kingdoms and Communities and making a loaf of peasant rye quickbread to have with my borscht for supper. So erm, yes.
Oh, and let's not forget the 60 pages of Henri Pirenne for the Medieval Mediterranean tomorrow, although they probably just aren't going to happen.
But on the bright side, my first day of teaching this time around is over and it wasn't that bad.
Hmm. I really did intend to post my musings on gender, clothing, and authority in American academia tonight, but I think I'm too tired for that. (*Iz ded from teaching*) Watch for that (hopefully), as well as my thoughts on Beowulf (which I'm now rereading, having seen the movie), sometime after the current deluge of NOES I'M ALSO A STUDENT!! subsides. Hopefully that will be Wednesday evening, around the same time I'm going to bake my pumpkin-chocolate loaf. Which will, by the by, be excellent, and that, at least, is something in this uncertain world that I, you, and everyone else, can count on. CHOCOLATE.*
Oops, now I'm hungry again. I need to think about food less, possibly. On that note, either more Kingdoms and Communities, or more likely, bed.
*Even though, having in desperation last night consumed an ounce of pure Baker's semisweet chocolate, I feel compelled to voice my developing suspicion that too much chocolate may actually give me headaches.
