Knitting poll, change in crossposting policy

Today, I mailed off my parents' Christmas presents, more than two months after Christmas already passed.

Clapotis wrap/scarf for my mother in handpainted Peruvian wool (Ravelry):

Cabled scarf for my father in a slate blue merino/silk blend (Ravelry):

I must admit that it took me seven(!) months to finish the Clapotis! My mother's birthday is coming up in May, a few weeks before Mother's Day, and I would like to not be so egregiously tardy, which means I need to start planning the project soon. I think I will use the gold superwash fingering yarn I bought at KnitPicks, since it is the exact shade that my mother believes suits her best.

I bought the yarn originally to make socks, which is why I only have one skein. But I'm not sure if my mother even wants/needs hand-knitted socks. Hence, a poll: what do you think would be the best gift? (Granted, very few of you know my mother, but I can think of arguments for and against all of the options below.)

Edit: Please read this post for my updated crossposting policy.

In other news, you may or may not have noticed that I've stopped crossposting all of my public entries to LiveJournal. So far, I'm only not crossposting the ones that I think are of little/limited interest to the people who primarily/only read me on LiveJournal. At some point in the indefinite future, I will stop crossposting altogether. For those of you who are reluctant to read me on Dreamwidth, here's a handy feed/syndicated account: dwtroisroyaumes. I have also made private most of my content on LiveJournal and imported all entries to
tarigwaemir. So for those of you still reading me on LiveJournal with no plans to move:

1. If it was only on LiveJournal and public, you can see it at
tarigwaemir.
2. If it was only on LiveJournal and friends-locked/filtered, you can still see it at tarigwaemir.
3. If it was on both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth, it's still on Dreamwidth.
4. If it is only on Dreamwidth and public, you can see it at dwtroisroyaumes.
5. If it is only on Dreamwidth and access-locked/filtered, please make sure I've added you to my access list and optionally select which filters you would like to see. (I haven't been crossposting locked content for a while now.)

I will still read you at LiveJournal if you post there! Also, if you want a Dreamwidth account, just say the word. I have more codes than I know what to do with.
