I swear to God you are amazing with how quickly you post this stuff. I was just thinking that I needed to go out and buy this issue.
I think Henry is extremely handsome. He has a great smile. The truth is that nothing will keep me from seeing this movie even if it turns out to be a trainwreck. I'm too big of a Superman fan to not see it. Basically everything I've heard about it thus far has not been encouraging. But I'll be there.
But truly, as handsome as Henry is....his face actually looks plain to me next to Tom's face. Henry is a very handsome man and he seems like a sweetheart from the interviews. Tom Welling is a stunningly beautiful man who manages to convey humility and strength at the same time through both good scripts and not so good scripts.
I really don't care what anyone says. No one will ever convince me that anyone has ever (or will ever) play Superman better than Tom has. The only person that I think has ever managed to capture the same majestic quality as the hero was Christopher Reeve himself in his prime. As much as I love the other men who have played Supes (and I do love them all)....Tom is the only one who has ever been in Reeve's league.
It hurts to see this cover right now as we are waiting so anxiously to see how they end the show. I had to remind myself today that Tom was on the cover of EW himself back when the show premiered and that he was on the cover of TVguide back in the summer prior to ComicCon. I hoping he gets another TVguide cover before the end of the series. He deserves it. In a way, I'm glad this is happening now though. It would have stung more to see this cover in April or May as we approach the very end of the series.
And on a shallow note, Tom looks unfreaking believable in the latest stills. Holy shit. Somebody's been working out. He is LEAN. You can see it so clearly in his face and neck and around his waist. His face looks so sculpted right now. Good God.
I don't know if I'll rush to the theaters when it first comes out, but I'll definitely see it, for the same reason, and hope for the best. I agree that the news so far, what little there is, only makes me wary.
For me, I know how completely Tom embodies the vision of Superman I hold dear. Henry Cavill is an unknown. He could very well be amazing in this film, but he'll never be Tom, and in two hours he'll never have the chance to give Clark Kent the emotional depth and richness of character that Tom has over the past ten years. Tom Welling will always be my Superman, even if he never dons the suit.
I certainly hope Tom gets another TV Guide cover to mark the end of Smallville. How many shows last 10 years? And YES, Tom takes my breath away in that still from Scion. Wow.
