Christmas '05, New Years '05/'06, Birthday '06

Well, it’s about time for an update…. *grins* Okay, okay, it’s past time.

Christmas
Joe and I once again traveled up to MI for Giftmas. It was actually rather fun - the pacing of events made it feel like a real vacation this time! It really helped that Joe’s family had X-mas on Sat, my dad’s side had it on Sun, and my mom’s side had it on Mon. It was nice not to have to run from place to place all on one day.

In addition, towards the end of the week (28-29th), we got to spend lots o’ time with Chris L, Chris M, which was fun.

Some Highlights:
  • Seeing Joe’s mom’s reaction to her gift of Blockus
  • Playing Puerto Rico with Chris L & Mary
  • Finally getting to spend some time BSing with Chris M
  • Being able to spend an afternoon with just my dad & mom2, the four of us playing Blockus and Bump
  • Watching Joe’s sister Jen jump up and down while saying “Now we all match!!!!” like one of her cute students (she got all the girls in the family - including herself - very comfy velour jogging suits)
  • Seeing my step-sister’s reaction to the Grumpy Bear fleece shirt we got her for X-mas (which Joe picked out with the memorable words of “Let’s get Laura this, ‘cause she is!” said in a very chipper and completely serious tone)

    New Years
We set out for Chicago on Sat the 31st, headed for sisyphusx’s. Except for a slight wrong turn (easily corrected) and some toll-booth sticker shock ($0.30 = ok, $0.50 = ok, $2.50 = WTF! - referred to as the old bait-and-switch road by dragonbane and Noel), the drive went well.

    Some Highlights:
  • Hanging out with Jeff, ‘cause we weren’t able to come see him in the hospital
  • Spending time game-playing with Jeff, Rich, and Noel
  • Actually going to a New Year’s Eve party - even if I didn’t know but 3 people there
  • Eating at Sweet Tomatoes again
  • Breaking my personal rule not to get involved in Political discussions

All in all, it was a very good holiday. :)

My B-Day - and an AWESOME gift!!!!!!!!
Okay, I’m actually going to start with last night and work backward in this section….

I didn’t do much for my B-day. No party, no big gathering - which is pretty much how I like it. It’s just another day, after all.

Joe G, Joe L, one of Joe L’s friends (I forget his name), and I went out to dinner Sun night at Texas Roadhouse (a very good steakhouse, for those of you who don’t know). Then we went home and gamed in Joe L’s game for a short while before I got tired and went to bed while the guys continued - they didn’t have to work today, lucky them. :(

But before that, Joe G and I went shopping to Best Buy to gather accessories for my b-day gift. I also picked up Fullmetal Alchemist DVD vol 1 while I was there, and Chaos and Amber (new Amber series book 2) from the Half-Price Bookstore where we ventured afterward. Also, at Walmart, they had Hellsing DVD vol 1 for $7.50, so I snatched that right up as well. What can I say - I loves my anime.

I had actually opened my gift the night before - Sat, right before we started gaming. Why, do you ask?

Well, I had started by inviting the players to have dinner with us on Sun. Unfortunately, both had other responsibilities, which I already knew, but wanted to extend the invite anyway. After that conversation, Joe G. spoke up.

“So, is anyone going to be coming tomorrow?”
    Reluctant negatives around the room.
“Okay! Who wants to see Kathy open her gift?!?!”
Affirmatives, including clapping from one individual.

So, with an audience, I opened the package to discover:

    MY VERY OWN DIGITAL CAMERA!!!!!!!!

    :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I was/am ecstatic. I’ve been wanting a digital camera forever, and this one is way beyond what I had ever imagined owning! 7.2 megapixels, has a LCD screen to view pics, can record videos, has a timer and settings for every situation I can imagine - I LOVE IT!!!!!!!

So THANK YOU, Joe, Dad, and Mom2. :)
