Things I have learnt about roofs

Last year my landlord decided to get the roof sorted out because we had a few problems with leaks. The roof has been leaking ever since. So, dear people on my f-list who own your own homes, here are two things I have learnt you should never get done to your roof.

1.) don't get one of these companies who offer to power-hose your roof and 'waterproof' your tiles.

The pressure of the power-hose will crack your tiles and damage the structure of your roof! Men walking on the roof to then paint the tiles will do further damage. NEVER EVER GET THIS DONE. It is a con, it is actually cheaper to get a new roof.

2.) Never get spray-on insulation in the attic - it will expand and lift the roof tiles from the inside.

My landlord got the first option, not the second, but the actual proper roofer who has just been here was quite vocal about it so I thought I'd share! They damaged the lead valley which had to be redone and broke a lot of tiles, there has been water coming in since August! If you know anyone who is thinking about getting anything like this done to their roof, stop them.

life gets in the way of everything
