Miscellaneous Fandom Thoughts

So there was no new Young Justice last Friday, which is just as well, 'cause I needed to get caught up on the one from last week anyway. I have no coherent thoughts about "Secrets" except to squeal SECRET SECRET OH GRETTAAAAAA I LOVE YOU YOU ARE SO ADORABLE IN THIS INCARNATION AND MISS MARTIAN WHY ARE YOU SO PERPETUALLY ADORABLE AND BUMBLEBEE WEARING HER HERO COSTUME AND MAL WEARING CONNER'S COMIC YOUNG JUSTICE SUPERBOY COSTUME AND ARTEMIS AND ZATANNA BEING BAMFS AND BFFS AAAAAAAAH!

So there won't be a review on that end. But! I have also taken the time to get caught up on Fate/Zero and the Tales of Symphonia OVA.
First up... Tales of Symphonia.
I'm... a little underwhelmed? I dunno I guess I expected a little more after the GLORIOUS WONDERFUL OF EPIC AWESOME AND SHIPPER SQUEE that was Tethe'alla Episode Four. This first episode of the United World arc just didn't seem to hook me as much (maybe because it focuses on the backstory of Mithos and Martel and Kratos and Yuan and I really have a low amount of interest in their story).
Of course, this could just be because there are no subs yet and I CANNOT UNDERSTAND A WORD ANYONE IS SAYING. Oh and I can't find the first part of the episode anywhere due to copyright blocking because of the opening song. THAT WOULD HELP GUYS KTHANKS.
That being said, however, HNNNNGGGGH THE ANIMATION IS SO FREAKING GORGEOUS I WANT TO MARRY IT AND HAVE ITS LITTLE ARTIST BABIES. The colors are so vivid! The lines are so crisp! The motions are so fluid!
Lemme see... some other things I did like... Lloyd and Colette sitting together at the table for dinner. And being generally adorable together. And then tortuously screaming each others' names when Zelos does his betrayal and kidnaps Colette. OH MY OTP LET ME LOVE YOU! Genis and Presea were cutely sitting together too. And Sheena got to be all Slap Slap Kiss with Zelos. And the music was beautiful, as always. Need that soundtrack. Need it in my life.
I'm pretty sure I'll like the episode more once I know what's being said. Since it's tremendously dialogue heavy I probably miss most of the plot points and soul-punching stuff completely. (Brings back memories of trying to watch Tethe'alla Episode Two and Three without subs. SO HORRENDOUSLY CONFUSING UNTIL THE LAST THIRD.) In the meantime, I'm gonna grab the raws while they're still up, for amv material.
On to Fate/Zero!
Episode 9. As of Episode 8, we still had not killed Caster. Lancer and Saber teamed up to destroy his grimoire but that was about it. Darn. I was so severely wishing his creepy ass would get taken out. But Maiya and Irisviel got to be awesome together, battling Kotomine, who defeated Kayneth with a special bullet that disrupted his magic circuits. Also, there was blood. Lots and lots of blood. It was kind of gross.
So now let's move on to Episode 9! I warn you, I'm watching this while I'm writing, so my thoughts will be stream-of-conscious.
Oh hey! We're getting Lancer's backstory! Awesome!
BAH HA HA KAYNETH WAS SEEING LANCER'S STORY IN HIS DREAM LIKE SHIROU WAS ABLE TO DO WITH SABER!
Cue the opening. I love this song, "Oath Sign".
Kayneth is still a little shell-shocked from actually being hit and defeated by Kiritsugu. But it's okay 'cause his fiance Sola is here to be hot and tend to his weak wounded body. And the part of me that has a total thing for romantically involved couples patching each other up goes pitter-pat. Sola offers to take Kayneth's command seals and become Lancer's Master. Kayneth says no.
O.O Holy cow I think Sola just broke one of his fingers.
Cut to the Eiszbern Manor. Iri's finished up healing Maiya from their run-in with Kotomine. Saber wants to pursue Caster immediately, being all Lawful Good and wanting to protect people and prevent more innocent kids from getting killed. But when Iri talks with Kiritsugu, he's going after Kayneth.
Now we're with Sola and Lancer and Lancer is trying to be all noble and stuff and not accept Sola as his new Master and she's all, "BUT WHY?" But they manage to work out an agreement.
ISKANDER! ISKAAAAAANDEEEEERR! <33333 I MISSED YOU BB! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? THE WORLD HAS BEEN LESS AWESOME WITHOUT YOU. Iskander is drinking and laughing with the farmer couple whose house Waver is illegitimately staying in. Upstairs, Waver does some alchemy to discover magic traces in the water. And using SCIENCE! discovers where Caster is likely hiding. Oh Waver. Let me hug you.
And now they're riding through the sewer pipe, running over the tentacle things with Iskander's chariot. Awesome. Iskander warns Waver that he shouldn't see what they've found and Waver ignores him. And finds the carnage. And throws up. Aww, and Iskander comforts him.
Assassin (all of them) appears from the shadows. But then disappear again. Darn it, I wanted a fight scene!
Oh, Iskander's going to sabotage Caster's operations. Awesome. That'll work too.
Aaaaand then end with ominous conversation between Kotomine and Tokiomi Tohsaka. That's it? Dang. Fate/Zero is as slow-moving as Fate/Stay Night was. Still haven't slain Caster, still haven't killed a single Master, come on guys throw me a bone here.
Ah well. Here's hoping for more in Episode 10.
