Breaking Dawn Part One!

Nov 20, 2011 21:49

Went and saw it yesterday with Ally and OH BOY WAS IT FUN!

No pre-show stuff to report, as we went to a noonish showing.  'twas still rather packed though.  Lots of fellow fans to squee with.

1. Trailers:

So what is it with Twilight movies and trailers with Taylor Swift songs?  With New Moon we had Letters to Juliet with "Love Story".  With Breaking Dawn Part One we have...

MY OTHER FAVORITE TAYLOR SWIFT SONG "ENCHANTED"!

SQUEEEEEEEE!

Also saw a cool alien invasion movie, Mission Impossible 4, things like that.

2. Breaking Dawn Titlecard:

Preeeeeetttyyy...

3. Overall Adaptation:

Scriptwriter Melissa Rosenburg continues to adapt the Twilight movies impeccably, and the director has added some very nice extra scenes and ambiance we didn't get to see in the book, such as the fight with the werewolves and Jacob diffusing it.

Also, ended at the perfect place, with Bella opening her new red vampire eyes.

4. Minor Things:

The Cullens' new haircuts- I almost didn't recognize Jasper or Alice with their new, shorter hairdos.  I miss Alice's cute spiky hair and Jasper's luxurious blonde curls. : (

The movie's habit of inserting indie songs in various places- Okay, one thing that I will freely admit annoyed the crap out of me were all the places where the camera lingered on something inconsequential and a soft indie song piped in.

OH MY GOSH STOP.  JUST HAVE SCORE.  I DON'T NEED TO HEAR SOME RANDOM DUDE SINGER I DON'T KNOW CROONING ABOUT LOVE AND MELANCHOLY AND SHIT.

Seth- Oh my gosh, Booboo Stewart SPROUTED.  And now he's an adorable little hunk.  <33333  And of course Seth is cuteness forever period.

Bella's human friends- Oh yeah, they're still around.  And they're as funny and cutely normal as ever.  And I'm still pretending Eric is Ben.

Tanya's clan- Nice to meet them finally.  Good job establishing Irina's resentment of the wolves and by extension the Cullens for killing Laurent.  Gorgeous ladies, all of them.

Charlie continues to be awesome dad forever.  Also Renee is a loving sweet mom- And their farewell to Bella was very heartwarming.

Rio de Janerio- Oh hello gorgeous scenery and culture porn, how are you?  So totally want to go on vacation in Brazil now.

Leah- THIS BITCH IS AWESOME, HATERS TO THE LEFT.  Oh I love her spunk and sass and sarcasm and bitterness and everything.  She and Jacob had some great interaction in this movie, and now I want loads and loads of BFF fic.

(Liked the random quick shot of Quil and Claire at the beach when we were with the wolves.  Nice way to reference that without directly talking about it.)

5. Major Things:

The wedding-  So.  Freaking.  Pretty.  I would love a wedding like that.

Edward/Bella bed-breaking hotness- Unf.  SO MUCH SEXING IN THIS MOVIE.  And lo, it was hot.  Completely and totally hot.

For the first twenty minutes before the Surprise!Pregnancy, the two of them were an utterly adorable together and happily-married couple.  Then of course the drama happened and they spent some time in angsty disagreement.  Then once Edward bonded with the baby, they went back to being all happily-married.  D'aww!

Completely loved how well Robert Pattinson did the scene where Edward is changing her after the birth scene.  So very frantic and pleading and desperately begging Bella not to leave them.

The birth scene- OH HOLY MOTHER OF X'HAL THAT WAS INTENSE.  AND BLOODY.  I needed to hold Ally's hand for it.  I completely believe what Kristen said about some versions of the scene being rated R.  Too much blood just in the PG-13 version.

Jacob imprinting on Renesmee- I actually really liked how the scene was transcribed.  Jacob comes in, murderous in intention, Rosalie is bouncing the baby and we're on a tracking shot slowly panning over her shoulder, looking at the baby, with occasional cuts to Jacob.  Renesmee's eyes flick over, Jacob stops in his tracks.  Slow zoom on baby's serene-looking face.

Then WHOOSH pretty montage of forest and sunrises and clouds and beautiful grown-up Renesmee smiling and looking so happy and frolicking with Wolf!Jacob, with voice-over from Jacob waxing about how imprinting feels.

Back to the Cullen house, Jacob just sinks to his knees.

Really well filmed.

Bella's transformation- Effects were exceptionally well done.  Also, Bella is gorgeous.  I am forever biased, I know.  But I love these movies for their plentiful eye candy.  I can't help it.

Conclusion: HECK YES, CAN'T WAIT FOR PART TWO WHERE BELLA GETS AWESOME.

It's... actually my favorite so far?  Yeah, even with the random indie songs, totally and completely my favorite so far.
