Book Review: His Majesty's Dragon

Title: His Majesty's Dragon
Author: Naomi Novik
What it says on the back:
Aerial Combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain's defense by taking to the skies... not aboard aircraft but altop the mighty back of dragons.

My Thoughts:

What's is not to like!?

Alternate History! Dragons! Historical Fiction during the Napoleonic Wars! DRAGONS!

I am immensly impressed and so very glad that I tried this book, and that there are a good many more books to read.

I like Laurence and Temeraire, and while a comparison to Anne MacCaffrey's PERN is inevitable, I find the comparison unnecessary. The affection and relationship shared between Laurenace and Temeraire is truly lovely (and this the first book!) In fact all the characters and the politics and AU look at history is as completely engaging as the idea of an Aerial Corps.

Excellent read!
