Movie Review: The Amazing Spiderman 2: Rise of Electro

I am glad that I remained unspoiled about this movie - aside from the trailer. Tumblr was kind to me in this instance so I had no clue (other than my Spidey knowledge that Gwen was doomed) to forsee the dramatic ending.

First: the inevitable, inescapable comparison between the two 2's. Tobey's second outing and Andrew's second outing. I still miss Tobey's sweet little face and Spiderman 2 remains one of my all time favourite movies. I also miss J Jonah Jameson in this new series. Its just not the same without ole Flattop flailing on about Spiderman. The movie tried but JJJ is not so the same via email. *sigh*. Also, Andrew is good - really good but he didn't spend all that much time as Spiderman and perhaps it was the direction but he seemed to be on an unnecessary emotional rollercoaster and a little 'all over the place' re Gwen and Dad and Harry and blah blah. It didn't quite gel for me as much as Tobey's depiction of a fraught, over worked, over tired Spiderman.

Second, the good. And it was good. The special effects and webslinging effects were incredible. Awesome fight sequences. Spidey's humour whilst tackling the bad guys was hilarious (as it should be) and Emma Stone was wonderful - just wonderful as the spunky (but doomed) brilliant scientist. Electro was a good, sympathetic, crazy villian and Harry packs promises of future movie villianness. The movie had good pace and style, even though the end dragged on a little.

All in all - a good movie. But I loved Spiderman 2 far more
