Vampire Diaries 1.1 to 1.10

I have a lot of thoughts - mostly about the pervasive appeal of gorgeous angst-ridden vampires and their devil-may-care semi-evil friends/brothers. But there is plenty of meta and critique and essays about that on the web and I tend to overthink things too much. Instead, I will limit my thoughts to the show itself.

Once I got over my 'whine - its not Whedon/Angel' and my 'relief - its not Twilight' I settled in to watch. I watched the pretty mostly - Stefan and Daemon are beautiful, beautiful and I like their dynamic even if its overdone in the genre. Elena is not annoying, which is suprising as its a fine line the character walks between naiveity and scoobie paranoia.

I like the mythos as well. As a vampire story it will always struggle with originality but I like the approach to the mythos, back story and future plots. On the whole, I fear I am hooked. Hooked by the broody profile of Stefan, Daemon's eyes, both of their bodies, the story, Bonnie's arc, and the whole kit and kaboodle.

(hangs head in fear of future show watching time)
