The Devil Wears Prada

I finished reading "The Devil Wears Prada" last night. It is one of the books I picked up on my way through an airport one day (I frequently buy books in airports, just for something to do). It was really the title that caught my eye. For the most part, it is what I like to call mind candy. Mind candy to me are books that you enjoy reading and read just for the sake of reading. They are not great literature. The Devil Wears Prada is the story of Andrea Sachs, a recent university graduate who gets a job at Runway Magazine as the assistant to the editor in chief, Miranda Priestly. Miranda is a VERY high maintenance boss who is very demanding (and at times, abusive) of Andrea. Andrea has taken this job as her key to magazine world (what she really wants to do it write - and NOT for a fashion magazine). Andrea sacrifices a lot in an attempt to please Miranda. I don't want to ruin the book for anyone who may want to read it... But, let's just say, it really gave me food for thought last night about what is really important and the over emphasis we all put on work.

I am not quite sure what I am going to do about it. I think I attribute too much of my self-esteem and personal worth to how I do at work. Consequently, I spend too much time at work and maybe not enough time on other things. I struggle though because I like being a consultant. I like essentially getting a new job every few months. I don't know that I could stay in just one job. I need to figure out how I can have these new challenges on an on-going basis and not live in a Hilton Hotel in New Jersey... It is sad really - I have more friends in New Jersey than in Atlanta. Something is not quite right.
