As people have probably already heard, two CW network launch specials are being aired on Monday and Tuesday night, at 9pm. Tonight's ET Insider is supposed to have a "preview" of ET Presents The CW: Launch of a New Network. More info
here.
The description there calls it a "two-part" special, with behind-the-scenes interviews on Monday and red carpet/party interviews on Tuesday, however a reporter on Friday's ET referred to Tuesday's night's special as an "encore." I'm assuming he was mistaken. Either way, I'm looking forward to it for glimpses at all of my returning CW shows (VM, Supernatural and Smallville). Hopefully, there will be a good deal of coverage of VM, since it's the show that really needs the publicity at this point.
And on the subject of promotion for my favorite ratings-challenged series: I swear, if my local CW channel doesn't start showing promos for season 3 of VM... Grr. I just can't figure out why. I thought I might simply be missing them, but I recorded all the primetime shows this week and fast forwarded through them just to see if I was wrong about the lack of Veronica Mars promotion and ... not one real season 3 promo. One occurrence of the short "Get Ready" promo with the actors, one station ID promo with KB and that was it. But plenty of commercials for Smallville, some Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill and Supernatural. I'd think it was just because these were former WB shows and my local UPN station is the one changing over to CW, but I also saw a bunch for Everybody Hates Chris and America's Next Top Model, so that theory doesn't fly. There just hasn't been any promo love for VM. :(
And on an odd, but interesting note, none for 7th Heaven either. Not that I'm complaining, but they're not promoting their so very popular "family" show? Weird.
Reviews of the first 2 episodes have been popping up all over the place. I'm trying to be good and not read them because I do believe that watching the show "live" is the best way to experience TV. However, I did squint through a
spoiler thread to find the link to a scan of the
screener DVD. (And I did watch the
cold open/ "director's cut" video because I needed something to tide me over until 10/3.)
I find the cast photo on the screener interesting. The three girls are all spaced out evenly. Veronica's in the middle, with her closest guys (Keith, Wallace and Logan) all around her. And Lamb and Weevil are on the outside. Just really interesting and seemingly appropriate placement of all the characters. And dang, does this show have a huge cast of regulars? 10? I can't think of many shows that have so many regulars.
Anyway, this photo means there are definitely more promo pics out there we have yet to see. I do wish the CW website would be a little more on the ball like they are with the other series that already have tons of promo pics put up. I don't know, maybe it's because VM will be the last series to premiere?
You know, everything I've read and heard has only added to my excitement for the new season to begin. I just wish the network promo people would help out a bit more to get new viewers interested.
