Starting back in the back! At the start, Helen thought he was sort of obnoxious and rather drilling for information, but she learned how to dodge around the questions and not reveal more than what she wanted to be known. When she learned that he had an extended life span, in her own way, Helen immediately attached to him. By her canon point the few people that understood what it was like are either MIA/dead/no longer immortal, so she is looking at living by herself for a long time. Knowing that there is someone else out there like that, who may or may not always be there, helps more than she's willing to admit vocally. Of course on the flip side, after learning about the Time War and how old he is, Helen doesn't feel as if she has the room to really dwell on her own life span or what she's had to do. Which means she just shoves it back under an emotional wall and doesn't bring it up again.
He can infuriate her as well, of course, because he is so stubborn and determined to keep her safe when he's around. She's accepted she won't be safe, and wishes that he'd stop trying to protect her. In a way it reminds her of James, but in the end she ended up distancing herself from James and she honestly doesn't want to do that to Eleven. She finds it selfish to want him around more, so she never calls him to visit. She lets him decide when to come by, which makes the waiting hell on her, but that is why she just throws herself into work more and more. And since their little run in with the Silurians, she won't ask him to stay longer. She felt so guilty for him being in that much pain because she called him there, that she is afraid if she does it again he'll be hurt and he'll eventually just stop visiting.
She tries very, very hard not to compare whatever it is they have to what she had with John, but sometimes it slips through. It's probably the first time since John she's been this open and this vulnerable to anyone and it scares her, because she wants to be open, but wants to hide at the same time. After Ashley and John, Helen is more or less convinced that when people get too close, she either directly or indirectly causes their pain and refuses to do that to Eleven. Which, really, is why she keeps that one emotional wall up that he hates so much. She's trying to protect him from what can happen because of her, as opposed to some random alien/Earthlien/Abnormal.
Which really she does out of love, even if she refuses to believe she is in love. When she said she showed him the Sanctuary to get his approval, she did mean it, especially in a schoolgirl sort of way. The big difference that Helen has really yet to realize is that Eleven brings out that fun, risk taking, childish side of her that she buried after the Whitechapel murders. Nikola can bring it out, sometimes, but Eleven is really the only one that's successful in making her be who she was before she realized she had Longevity.
And, she honest to God hates him talking about regeneration. While she understands it as a psychological part of him, and he can't help it, Helen doesn't want to lose this Doctor literally only months after meeting him (from her point of view anyways). And only months after John went MIA/Nikola became mortal, and over half a year since Ashley died.
He wants her to keep talking about her life span! Honestly, to him, talking will probably be the only way she gets to accept it, so her not talking about it has got him a bit, well, concerned.
Eleven really does know, in the back of his mind, that she can take care of herself, but there's also that nagging responsibility feeling he gets when he takes any human on board for a journey. So, of course he's going to try to protect her. And he loves visiting; he can tell that she's trying not to call him, but he wants her to. He wants to be called. He doesn't want to feel like he's intruding all the time.
Yes, well, fortunately for her, he can't compare Helen to Rose.
Haha, oh, Eleven's just good at bringing out the wide-eyed kid in everyone. Whenever she's happy or thrilled, he's glad to be there, to watch her expression. He really does love her smile. c:
Ahahaha, oh, regeneration. Trust me, it doesn't tickle his fancy either, but he knows he has to tell her, make it very real, because he doesn't want her to just think that he's invincible, because then it just becomes sort of unfair. He knows that she can die, and she knows that he can die, he'd rather have that known vibrantly than have her wait for him when he's died.
Helen did accept it a long time ago. She just never wanted it, which was why she flipped out about it in the infamous submarine episode. She just doesn't like to dwell on it because she'll ultimately just remember what she's lost as opposed to what she's done.
She makes this smile! thank you season 3 oh my god.
