Author's Note: Just a silly little piece that came to me while I watched "The Idiot's Lantern".
Rose clung to the Doctor’s waist for dear life, shutting her eyes tightly against the blurring scenery that flew past them. She almost fancied that she could see her life flashing before her. Rose had never thought her life could end this way. She had seen the end of the world, monstrous aliens and even werewolves, but never had she considered the cause of her life ending being the Doctor’s driving skills. Or rather, his lack of driving skills.
“Isn’t it wonderful? Going so fast?” the Doctor’s voice rang out merrily from in front of her, as he narrowly avoided clipping a parked car and it’s owner on the roadside. Angry shouts carried down the street.
Rose chose not to answer, pressing her face against the Doctor’s shoulder.
“Don’t tell me you’ve got your eyes closed, Rose,” the Doctor admonished.
“Yes, I have, actually,” Rose said, mumbling into the Doctor’s shoulder.
“You can’t be afraid of a little old scooter! You’ve ridden the Tardis! And those absolutely fantastic amusement park rides on Traxylis III! Remember that one we went on five times until we were sick?"
“It’s not the scooter I’m afraid of! I’m more concerned about your driving! You nearly drove into that market stall and ran into that poor little old grandmother! Did you see her face? She’s probably lying in the street having a heart-attack!” Rose said, opening her eyes for a moment as she made her point. She instantly regretted it as the Doctor ignored a stop sign and flew through an intersection. Multiple cars slammed to abrupt stops in a cacophony of screeching tires, blasting horns, and angry shouting.
“Nonsense! I’m a perfectly capable, if not, overqualified, driver!” the Doctor said as he turned a sharp corner, waving pleasantly to an irate, gesticulating driver.
The scooter began to slow, and Rose opened her eyes to see that the police vehicle that they had been chasing had vanished.
“Lost them. How did they get away from us?” the Doctor asked indignantly as he surveyed the scene before them.
Rose let out deep breath that she was not even aware she had been holding as the scooter came to a stop. She silently gave a quick thanks to whatever higher being it was that had kept them alive.
Turning to the Doctor, she glared.
“I’m surprised they didn’t turn back and arrest you for reckless driving! Have you actually passed your test?”
