It's taken me awhile to get to your story (so many bigbangs, so little time) but I'm so glad I have! Some bits I loved:

"Well don't tell me anything," the Doctor said. Jack almost laughed in relief at the familiar tone of his voice, the one that said you were an idiot and would you please just shut up now?

That is a perfect, absolutely perfect, way of describing that tone of Nine's.

And may I say your description of coffee as "life-giving liquid" is spot-on and very, very true?

I love that the Doctor calls Jack "lad" like he did back in Boom Town. And banana reference FTW!

He had gone from a self-loathing conman to a hero. Rose from a shop-girl to intergalactic adventurer. The Doctor changed people. Made them better. Or perhaps just pulled the better part out of them, whether they wanted it or not. great look at how the Doctor affects his companions here
