It’s when I hear the familiar vworp, vworp, vworp of the TARDIS outside my window. Instead of the usual quiet after the time machine lands, I hear a loud crash followed by glass shattering.  Worried, I tumble out of bed, waking Rory, and scramble to the window.

“Amy, it’s 3:00 in the morning, love, what are you doing?”  Rory yawns when he joins me at the window.  I see the Doctor’s time machine in my backyard, belching smoke.   My heart leaps into my throat.  I tear away from the window and skitter down the stairs and out the door with Rory in tow.

“Dear God!”  I exclaim.  I get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach, and I can feel it.  The last time the Doctor landed like this was when I first met him, when I was eight, when he had just regenerated.  Only, it’s been fourteen years since then, he knows how to properly land a TARDIS.  That gets me worried; that means that a.) he’s been severely injured and incapacitated in such a way that the time machine crashed or…I didn’t want to think about the alternative.  I pull myself up onto the edge of the TARDIS and look inside.  I can barely make anything out in the smoke, but I do see a man huddled on his side on the console.  His tweed coat is ripped and torn, and his longish brown hair is matted with blood.  It’s the Doctor.  “Oh my God….oh my God, Rory, stay here," I mumble before carefully pulling myself over the edge.  I precariously make my way to him.  Before I can reach him, though, a woman in a dark blue 18th century dress stops me.  She silently takes my hand and guides me closer to the Doctor.  The Time Lord is injured, Amelia Pond; they’ve wounded him physically and psychologically, the woman-Idris, I recognize her; she’s the human manifestation of the TARDIS-whispers.  I brought him back to you for you are the only human being that can save him, that can heal him.  “What happened to him?” I ask the TARDIS, but Idris had disappeared.  Instead, it seems that the Doctor has come to.  His eyelids flicker for a moment before he opens his eyes, taking in his surroundings.  He makes a move as if to stand up, but immediately stops, crying out in pain.  I guess that some of his bones have been broken.  The Doctor lets out a pained sigh and lays back down.  He lays eyes on me, and his eyes widen.  For a moment, I think he recognizes me-well of course he does, I’m the crazy girl that keeps him company-but when I start to smile, he recoils and wraps his arms around himself, as if to protect himself….from me?  “Doctor, it’s me.  It’s Amy; I’m not going to hurt you," I croon, a little confused.  He shakes his head, holding his hands out in front of him as if to fend me off.

“No.  No, no, no, no, no, no," he stammers.  “You’re not Amelia Pond.  Amelia Pond didn’t hurt me.  You hurt me; but you wear her face.”
