This question was one Dodo could not answer. They crowded about her, and she thought a great deal, with her fingers pressed together at her lips (a technique she had learned from the First Doctor) while they all waited expectantly. Eventually, Dodo decided “Re: prizes. Everyone has won, and all must have prizes.”
“But who will give them?” asked Vicki, pertly.
“She, of course!” said Dodo, pointing at Nyssa, and they all gathered about her, calling in a confused way, “Prizes! Prizes!”
Nyssa had no idea what to do, and so she delved into her pocket, where she found a tube of Polo mints which had remarkably stayed dry all this time, and handed them round. There was exactly one each apiece, all round - with a hole in the middle.
“Hi!” said the Panda, “she should have a prize herself.”
“Of course, Hi-Fi” said Dodo very gravely to the Panda. Then to Nyssa, “What else have you got in your pockets?”
Nyssa had another look. “Only a widget” she said, regretfully. “And - urgh - it’s all full of water.”
“’And it over ’ere” said Dodo. “Gor-blimey, strike a light luv, ’ave this ’ere widget as your prize.”
Everyone cheered, but Barbara rolled her eyes and whispered to Nyssa “I do wish she’d forget she’s supposed to be a Cockney. It’s always most disconcerting when she starts striking a light all over the place. Such a terrible example to the other girls.”
Nyssa thought it all rather absurd, but she resisted the urge to laugh, and feigned great pleasure at the return of her widget, looking as solemn as she could.
The next thing was to eat the Polo mints, and this caused some confusion. A small, quiet girl draped in a brown sheet puzzled over the fact that she could see all the way through hers, at which Vicki laughed, choked, and had to be patted on the back.
However, when they were finished at last, they all sat down, and begged Hi-Fi the Panda to tell them something more.
