Donna rocks so very much. She rubbed me the wrong way in The Runaway Bride, but by the moment in Partners in Crime when she had a mime conversation with the Doctor through the windows I was sold. Most importantly, she doesn't take any crap from the Doctor. She can take him down a peg when necessary ("I'm not mating with you, sunshine!") or stop him when he tries to go too far. She says what she thinks, and if it bothers you then you can get over it, because Donna Noble is not changing herself to suit you.
For all of that brashness, Donna is also full of compassion. She knows when the Doctor needs comfort, and her hugs are as powerful as her slaps. (See the end of Midnight.) She feels deeply for the Ood, the people of Pompeii, Miss Evangelista, and everyone else she meets.
Donna is smart (Dewey Decimal system in one day, baby!), resourceful (e.g. the hilarious antidote charades in Unicorn & the Wasp), and incredibly brave (she died to save the world in Turn Left). She takes so much joy in the travel and the adventure. The fact that she does all this while concealing her deep underlying lack of self-confidence just makes her that much more incredible. When she became the DoctorDonna, amplifying her already high innate awesomeness more than mortals had believed possible, she could conquer anything...except the limits of her own biology and the Doctor's unfortunate tendency to make decisions for others.
Some day, Donna is going to get her memories back; when that happens, she is going to kick the Doctor's scrawny ass, then cross over into the real world and kick Russel T. Davies's ass too for taking them away from her. Just try to stop her.
