Well, that's interesting... coming home from my daily walk, and property manager dude is in his car, and asks to talk to me.
The dreaded rent increase has come.
They're looking to bump me from my current 500 to 675. However, there are some interesting options. One, if I stay up here, I forgo new carpets, and if I paint the walls myself, I can probably get 625.
The other option is moving to a 2-bedroom in the basement. Same space, same layout as my current apartment. New paint, new carpets (squishy!), new blinds, renovated bathroom, new light fixtures. They'd move me themselves for free. I'd pay 600 down there.
I guess my only reservation about moving downstairs is I'd lose the good view of the road I have now, which is really nice, and having people live on top of me, which I've never had to deal with before this. However, he did say that he's looking to have no new kids in the building, so whoever I got over top of me would have no children with their running around. And he did go up and give me a demonstration of walking up there, and with regular walking, I couldn't hear him, because they put in new underlay... stomping I could hear pretty well, though, which makes me apprehensive of a heavy walker.
I have two weeks to decide on the basement apartment, though, and a month before my lease automatically renews at the higher rate, which I wouldn't get before August.
Another huge factor in this is my current job hunt. Accentus, the transcription company in Ontario that took over my current company's contract with the QEII, is quite interested in hiring me, but there's no guarantee that I'll be put on the QEII work, which is what I really want and have prior experience in. I emailed the head of the trans. department at the QEII today inquiring about when I could expect to hear about the status of the full-time position that she entered my resume into Tuesday. I'm hoping it comes off as enthusiasm and not pestering :P
If I get the hospital job, I'd be laughin, as that's fully a dollar or more an hour over what I get now, plus health benefits. Accentus' wage is per dictated minute, but when I work that out, that's 30 dollars a day more than what I'd make now at full time hours. And that's at 120 minutes/day, which on the QEII work, I can hit without too much undue effort. I could likely hit 150 minutes/day once I get back into the swing.
I have to email Accentus back now with a couple questions I have on the 11-page contract they emailed me, and inquire about the GST number, as that's new to me as well. I hope to hear back from the hospital soon, though, as I don't want to stall Accentus, but I'd really rather work directly for the hospital if possible.
So this is the prologue to what could be an interesting chapter in life...
