I hate you, IE...

So, today was the December Merlin meet and I was all ready and about to leave the flat when...

...mum called, having a panic attack because her online visa application for India had done something weird and she'd become convinced that somebody had hacked into her computer and stolen her ID and she was cancelling everything left, right and centre, her debit card, her credit card, her passport etc etc and I had better get over there now with my own laptop to try and finish the application right now before they succeeded in stealing her identity...

O.o Srsly. WTF, mum?

So, yeah. Didn't get to go to the Merlin meet :( Instead, I spent five hours going through different permutations of computers/printers/browsers (having to reset modem/printer/browser between each trial) etc until I narrowed down the problem and managed to sort it.

The problem? The form only worked with IE 8.0 (which, incidentally, can not be used on a Mac). Nothing else--you tried any other browser and it would delete your application half way through.

So, IE 8.0 (and my mum's anxiety problem) made me miss something I'd been looking forward to for weeks. Looks like the world doesn't want me getting to Merlin meets :(

But, srsly? A government website that only allows one particular type and version of broswer? Ludicrous.
