Things are not going his way are they? Though at the same time... it's entirely possible Dabble and Longsider saved his life calling him out into the middle of nowhere and having all this happen isn't it? Especially with Cons moving into the city??
Not that I'm glad he's all hurt and in pain and can't get help... I just haz a suspicion (which is probably wrong but meh, I like making things complicated lol).

The opening certainly carries a heavy mix of irony and fear (kind of like the entire story). It's terrifying to think that you stupidly/accidentally hurt yourself and no one will be looking for you. Of course since we don't know exactly why the gates are closed, it's still possible he's saved his own life by not being able to get into the city.
For Ratchet's sake, I hope he is right and it's simply paranoia keeping those gates closed. I know everything is going to hit the fan at some point, but the longer we wait the more likely he'll be able to fix his damage. The hailing a barge is also potentially worrisome. Who knows who will pick him up.
He's in a very scary situation here, that's for sure. He's made it this far, and we know that he survives (because he's around later in SoaL) but as to quite what's going on at Ordan Helix and how Ratchet's going to get out of this... the answers will all be revealed in due course.

He'll get out of here and survive - after all, he's around later in the war; he just might have to be rescue himself to get there though :)
