Not the usual puff piece, as a South African article discusses the potential of fan fiction to improve youth literacy.
I think that is actually AWESOME. Speaking as someone who has long pushed the idea of comics as improving literacy at skeptical parents as a way of getting their kid to read (and read for pleasure), I like the non-judgemental approach at seeing how fan culture can positively affect a broader cultural base. Wish the 4th estate took this route a little more often, instead of going for the sensationalism...
