(for silly billies: OOT = ocarina of time, WW = wind waker, TP = twilight princess OK?!)
mal:
ok so my tattoo
i went through a lot of thought and planning for it
u wana hear about it?
it's gona be super nerdy!!!!
favvles:
sure!
mal:
ok
so
i'ma get the triforce on my chest
color, i'ma try to have'um make it look 3d
metallic n shiny
white shading around it
to look like it's glowing
favvles:
Dude
First thing I thought
"man would that make titjobs some kinda sacrilege or what I don't know"
mal:
lmao
nice
favvles:
HA HA WONDER WHAT'S ON MY MIND
anyway that's fuckin' rad
:3
mal:
didn't think of that, but that's awesome
and, my tits are too small for titjobs anyway
so no worries
around that, i'ma have some silver/gray filigree
reminiscent of the patterns on zelda's dress in brawl
favvles:
oh awesome!
mal:
and below it
OH MY GOODNESS
i put in so much WORK
for it
what i did was
i got the idea
then i thought, yes i'm going to do this
i couldn't even sleep, i was too excited, i woke up from sleeping to do it
favvles:
those are the best ideas
mal:
at 5am i got on the comp and researched quotes from OOT
miraculously found the PERFECT ONE
ultra significant to me
"This is the melody that will draw you into the infinite darkness that absorbs even time."
it's what sheik says before she teaches you the Nocturne of Shadows
which is my favorite ocarina teleporting song
and it's significant also because i'm sorta really into music (ex dj an all)
and i kinda feel like i have a lot of darkness in me
at least, judging from my past
it's a good way to let it all go
at the same time reminding myself of where i came from
favvles:
yeah dude
tattoos need to mean shit, you know
mal:
and it's sort of a warning to would-be suitors, too
"this is the melody that will draw you into the infinite darkness...."
hahahah
favvles:
hahaha
~
mal:
so i found the quote
and decided that i would have nothing less than hylian on my body
did a little research
found out that there are officially 3 different hylian scripts
OOT, WW, and TP versions
i, naturally, opted for the OOT script
because a) it was the best zelda ever, of which i was completely obsessed with for a good portion of my life, which also brought my family together at times, some of the few bright memories i have of my family at all
and b) the WW script looks exceedingly like japanese katakana, and the TP script looks like english letters, whereas the OOT script is more it's own
simple symbols. remember looking at every sign before you cut it to shreds, then played zelda's lullaby to put it back together again?
favvles:
Yep :3
mal:
those squareish marks?
that's ancient hylian, by the more "current" WW/TP standards
more angular, suited for carving into rock and stone and steel
by WW and TP, hylians were treated to more calligraphic endeavors with the abundance of paper
man i sound nerdy right now
anyway
favvles:
hahaha noooo!
I like it That sounds awesome
You put work into it, and that makes it special!
mal:
it turns out that the OOT and WW scripts are phonetically based, like japanese, (ka ki ku ke ko)
favvles:
Yuh
mal:
instead of individual lettering, like TP hylian, which is essentially just the alphabet
dressed up to look like something special
at least it looks pretty
hahaha
i might incorporate "DIN FARORE NAYRU" into the filigree in TP hylian
in pink, green, blue
anyway, in my quest to accomplish the quote, i realized i had to translate the quote into japanese
so i did
but all the translators i used came back in kanji
and i know fuckall about kanji
so i had to look up each individual kanji on a different website that took some effort finding
to get the phonetic equivalent
favvles:
daaaaang
mal:
i did so
and had a phonetic japanese translation of the quote
kore wa jikan o kyuushuu suru mugen kuroi yamu ni hiku merodeii desuru
next step, i realized that the website with the ancient hylian translations had image blocks
instead of individual characters you could copy-paste onto keyboard (of course, no fontage)
and there wasn't any cute translator on the site either
so i got the images
downloaded GIMP for my mac
then went through the tedious process of copying, character-by-individual-character, the phrase onto a new image
keeping close attention to the way they lined up
and the spacing inbetween letters
(4pixels each way)
finally, a quarter to 9am, i had my finished product
luckily the 1 character i left out that would've made it uneven was a simply japanese modifier
the -ru on the end of desu
so it all worked out well
favvles:
yay
mal:
extremely well, if y'ask me
i'm damn proud of it
and i can't wait to get it done
^________^
favvles:
:3!
Well good luck to y'all in it!
Hope you find a good artist, mang
mal:
definitely in portland
tons of tattoo shops
long waiting lists for artists, too, which is good,
gives me time to save up enough to actually get it done
etcetcetc
i'm stoked, guys
