Pain has an element of blank;
It cannot recollect
When it began, or if there were
A day when it was not.
It has no future but itself,
Its infinite realms contain
Its past, enlightened to perceive
New periods of pain.
-- Emily Dickinson
I broke a tooth last Friday.
I was just chewing some breakfast cereal and there was a not-quite-right sounding crunch and a bit in my mouth rather harder than the cereal.
So tomorrow I'm getting a root canal and a temporary crown, and later I'll get the permanent crown put in. I'm trying this new (to me, at least) sedation dentistry -- I get put mostly out for the duration of the procedure (semiconciousness with some hypnagogic time-loss), as well as getting something to sedate me tonight in preparation. Kinda looking forward to that.
The tooth doesn't hurt much, but it doesn't help the generalized pain, either.
