I Miss General Stores

Feb 20, 2012 12:51

Us old folks may remember the general store from our childhoods. No they were not what you now call convenience stores. They were usually larger and situated in small towns surrounded by miles of farmland. So far away from cities they had to have a bit of everything. They had old wooden floors that creaked a bit and they smelled divine, like the penny candies they displayed. The owner knew your name and delighted in your excitement at the candy counter. There are a few of these gems still left and if you find one, enjoy.

Warning: mute your sound, a music player down on the right hand side of the page starts up soon after you land on the page. But the pics are great!

General stores I have known and loved were in Argyle, IA, Alexandria, MO, and Sierra City, CA.

childhood, memory
