RIP James Kim

Dec 06, 2006 16:57

I had been following the saga of the missing family in Oregon with hope that James Kim would be found alive. That grew more unlikely with each passing day and finally his body was discovered today.

A lot of people will try to second guess his choice to leave the car. Sure, in hindsight it is clear that he would be safe today if he had remained with his family. It's too bad he didn't have a crystal ball. All he knew is that his family was in danger, had not been found yet, and that it might very well be up to him to find help for them. Risking one's life for others is among the most noble acts humans are capable of. I have to celebrate his courage and self-sacrificing spirit, even if it did not turn out as he had hoped.
