Can you have a meadow full of cactus?

I think it has officially changed over from hiking season to swimming season here in south Texas. Unfortunately, we didn't figure that out until we were already on the hiking trail. Yesterday it was rainy and cool. Today it was sunny and warm, a little too warm for optimal hiking. And a little muddy from yesterday's rain. But it was still a good hike.

By my estimate we saw over a dozen different varieties of wildflowers today and at least as many butterflies, plus lizards, crickets, and doves. Since we've had such a wet spring, things are lush and green and the flowers were literally blanketing the open spaces along the trail. creed_of_hubris was admiring one meadow full of flowers, when he posed the title question. Is it still a meadow if it is full of cactus as well as flowers? The Indian Blanket flowers were the most numerous. In some places they were as thick as in the picture at that link.

Also, there was good food today. The new vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe was fabulous and capped off a nice pre-hike picnic of sandwiches, chips, and fruit with limeade. The eggplant curry and dal I made for dinner were quite tasty as well.
