K, time for us to let the cat out of the bag. We're birth parents of one Jeremy Ashford and one Gillian Mildred. We ultimately chose to adopt them out to a very nice lesbian couple up north.
Late last year we found out that
shushmouse was pregnant. This passed January, we were told it was twins. Adoption was a choice we talked about making when we first got involved and then realized we were going to stay together. If we wanted children, we would adopt a couple of 9-10 year olds. If we got pregnant and couldn't deal with an abortion, we would adopt out. Such was the case in the end.
We are still working through the post-partem, but stand by our decision and still feel it was the best one. We could have been parents for sure, but it's not the same as wanting to be parents now and having prepared for it for over a decade (as is the case with the couple we got involved with). The adoption will be open, we'll have a lot of contact with them as time goes on. When they're old enough, they'll get to decide how much contact/involvement they want with us. Until then, we'll visit.
Also, I may have found me a bookselling job in town. Management at one of the big-box bookstores. Cross fingers, toes, tongues, lips - whatever ya got. I'm just waiting on an interview this coming week, but should I get the position - I'll have served as management in all three arms of new book retail (discount, textbook and regular trade). There's no way in hell we'll get denied on a loan to open our own store. Then again, had it not been for a youthful lack of credit history, we would have been approved the first time around. Ah well, c'est la guerre, no? This time around we'll look even more sparkling and pristine.
