The new job opportunity stuff is panning out nicely, one could say. Except the lovely glaze of having two companies fighting to give you a job has worn off, and left behind a slightly tarnished, matte finished version of itself.
Some explanations of this include paying upwards of $4,000 in gas (accounted before any future hellish gas-price inflation that is sure to come), but probably getting to keep my labret in (I won't be getting rid of it, just working around it). In any case, a $4,000 piercing - what the hell, man?
Other examples include driving an hour in each direction to get to and from work every day, complicated by the fact that I would be able to earn bonuses based on sales. I wouldn't get that at the other job, but I'd be no more than a bus ride and short-walk away from wherever we'll be living and wherever the store will end up. So, I could help the Mouse a lot more. It would also mean less wear and tear on the truck, which will be very important come time for us to be hauling inventory up and down the east coast.
The most pressing example of finding a sticky, unidentifiable residue on the underside of this issue is that because I'd be working for another company with similar products, the Mouse may get fired from the job she's got here; potential 'conflict of interest' as my current, benighted boss mentioned. She's a part-timer here as it is and there was hope she'd fill the void I leave behind.
Either way I'd be going corporate, and I'm getting in the wheel to start my paces. I'm hoping I can get a better offer from the place in town, hopefully they'll take my old job fighting for me as a sign of my worth or something. I'm gonna wish for a nice counter offer for the faux dept. manager position and hope I get to keep my happy little ass in town. Now, all those folks have to do is call and tell me all about it.
