All in all, this year was awful. Yet I find myself looking back and smiling. What I've learned in the past year has changed me in ways I could not have imagined. And I only hope that you see that change. I've come such a long way from my self-destructive ways. So many things and people were bringing me down, but this time I'm living for myself. And I'm going to make sure I do it right.
Hello, 2008! May you be as good to us as 2007 was. (Or hopefully, better. Please! Haha)
One year ago today, I wrote this all smiles and optimism. 2008 was supposed to be better but I find that many of us are not just broken because of what the year has brought. There were so many experiences of hurt and betrayal. Where do we go from here? How do we move on? I know things will get better because everything gets better. That never stopped it from hurting right now though.
This year started on a really high note for me and certain things that were happening seemed so important. But along the way, experiences prove that there are bigger problems than when he finally decided to stop texting or not being able to tell your best friend something or getting really drunk and doing something incredibly stupid. You know those things that only ever happen in the movies, or to a friend of a friend? Apparently they happen in real life too. They happen to the people you know and love and they happen to you. You can't stop it. All you can do is take the punches and hope and pray you'll survive.
At the end of it all, I'd like to think I'm a stronger person because of it when in reality, I know I'm more vulnerable than I've ever been. We (and I speak in plural form because some people might need to hear this more than me) know we're strong because we've survived so much already. And we know we can survive this one too. Sometimes though, it gets to a point where we've fallen so many times that getting up just isn't worth it anymore. Thankfully (I think), a bunch of us have fallen at the same time and we're here to help each other get right back up. Coz honestly, loves, I don't want to spend the rest of my life sitting in the dirt with your sorry asses. ;o)
Good riddance, 2008. I'll always remember you as the year my life did a 180. The year I knew nothing would be the same. The year I gave up my lifelong dream and the success that came with it. The year I lost my faith in love. And I will always, always remember you as the year that broke us and broke our hearts.
You may have won the battle but you can be damn sure we're winning the war. There is nothing you can throw at us that will keep us down and before this year ends, I just wanna say fuck you '08.
