I've read The Fountainhead, but not Atlas Shrugged. I have a feeling they're essentially the same book.

This is the first I've read of Rand, and I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Not for the philosophy, of course, but for simply...the characters and the story. I suppose I'm quite shallow. But she's a much more engaging writer than a philosopher.

Pieces of the philosophy in The Fountainhead were great, but she presents everything with such arrogant graveness that I found myself wanting to vandalize her grave from time to time.

Ah. I've never read The Fountainhead, so I can't speak for the ideas therein, but I will say that as far as decipherable philosophy goes, pieces of Atlas Shrugged are wonderful as well. It certainly opens your mind up for a bit of entertaining thinking. But when fitting it into logic sequences, some of it doesn't add up, though merely on account of clumsy wordplay. Still, though. Good fun. Not being either a fan or critic of Rand allowed me to really have fun with the grave presentation. I guess it's along the same overblown lines of atmosphere that drew me into some of CLAMP's storylines (on a different note entirely, of course). ^_^
