Aww. I love pre-Uchina massacre brothers. ♥ This is dumb, though. I'm in too good a mood, I guess.

Itachi was a very serious boy, so when Sasuke was old enough to walk and talk, he was somewhat wary about taking him outside. But his mother insisted. It was his day off, and he should play babysitter. That was how things were. It didn't matter that Itachi was an esteemed ninja very important to the village's success.
So, now they were in Itachi's favorite clearing - the one he used to get away from all the pressures of the clan.Thunkthunk. Kunais right on target, as always. Briefly he shot a glance back at his brother, just to make sure he hadn't wandered off. He couldn't walk that well yet, but the possibility was still there. He hadn't gone anywhere, however, and was instead staring at him with dilated black eyes - mouth blowing a spit bubble. Huh.
It wasn't that Itachi cared to show off, or that he wanted to entertain the toddler sitting a safe distance away. He merely wanted to challenge himself - to push the development of a couple of new tricks...er...techniques. Finishing up a few flips, he landed with a slight smile on his face. Perfect. Turning (not expectantly, mind you), he cast his eyes around for Sasuke. He didn't see the wide black eyes he had been expecting. In fact, Sasuke was...nowhere. Slicing his hand through a few bushes, he sighed in exasperation (not annoyance or disappointment).
"Sasuke."
No answer.
He walked in the direction he had last seen him.
"Little brother."
He didn't like raising his voice.
Laughter in the distane. Really stupid laughter, so it must be Sasuke.
A couple of bounds and leaps, and Itachi was there, just next to the creek. Sasuke had his hands in the water, splashing. He sighed.
"Sasuke, what are you doing?" he asked quietly - sharply.
Sasuke stopped laughing and turned to look at him. Guilt was all over his face.
"What do you have in your hands?" Itachi murmured, squatting down eye level.
Sasuke screwed up his face, wrinkled nose and all, before shoving his hands forward. Itachi jumped back by reflex (he wasn't creeped out, no) and couldn't help his expression of disgust.
A tiny tadpole was wriggling between Sasuke's muddy fingers.
Itachi took in the boy's soaked shorts and mud-splattered cheeks.
What was so interesting about a tadpole anyway?
After forcing Sasuke to toss the wriggling thing back in the water, he threw him over his shoulder, eliciting a few giggles. Just before they were out of the clearing, he felt Sasuke squirm around and hang his upper body further off Itachi's shoulder. Itachi smiled a little.
"Are you waving to the tadpole?"
Sasuke grinned, staring at an empty space beyond the river.

"Uh-uh."
