Footprint Quiz

I found this quiz very thought-provoking, and a bit disturbing:

I've always tried to live an environmentally friendly life, but I'm also very much aware how connected I am to the petro-industrual teat. I do like having fresh asparagus in the winter and passion fruits and star fruits (all of which need to be flown in). I'm very much aware that the global market requires energy sources to keep moving. I know that agriculture is very much dependent on petroleum, not only for transportation, but for fertilizer. I also have a very strong feeling the the bubble is going to pop soon. This intuition is not only confirmed by the green/left, but also engineers and scientists, and industrial/petrochemical people (www.hubbertpeak.com/experts).

I ordered a copy of "The End of Suburbia" last week (www.endofsuburbia.com). Several of us at work are talking about having a showing, so I thought I'd take the initiative.

Some quotes from a report put out in 2001 by the James Baker III Institute or Public Policy (hardly a haven for greeny/lefty types) are telling: "The problem is that the American people continue to demand plentiful and cheap energy without sacrifice or inconvenience". "The world is currently precariously close to utilizing all of its available global oil production capacity"; "World shortages could reduce the status of the US to that of "a poor developing country"
