So I figured since I hadn't updated in here in a long time I should probably give the info on how the summer turned out.
After a pretty hellish semester, for lots of reasons, I was really glad to get to the summer, and it has been a pretty full summer.
It started off with me working at my ridiculously simple but high paying job at Cornell and a few Baroque oboe lessons. There was a lot of time spent down in Vestal with Shannon there too.
Then Shannon and I, my mom, grandmother, and aunt all went on a vacation to the beach in Massachusetts. Shannon and I had a day in Boston on the 4th of July, which despite some issues, I had a great time with. At the end of vacation, though, family relations were starting to fall apart and just as they were dropping me off in Connecticut for the Amherst Early Music Festival my aunt and mother exploded at each other. It all blew over I guess and I spent the following week at, as mentioned earlier, Amherst Early Music.
Amherst was great. It was a lot more laidback than BPI (probably because I didn't get into the stupid Baroque Academy at Amherst, they only took two oboes). I had kind of a lousy chamber music group but the masterclass and oboe band with Wash really made up for it. I also played in one informal reading session, did work study helping to build props for the opera, spent a lot of time at the instrument exhibition (and impressed some people there with my budding Medieval Harp playing skills), and even had a little bit of a playing session with a new friend (a Baroque bassoonist who went to Ithaca College awhile ago) at the bus station waiting to go home!
At this point I get home and Shannon works frantically on a new Ren Fest costume for me (which turned out beautifully) because we were going to the Ren Fest the next weekend. I got to perform and set it up so I could come back in a few weeks and stay the whole weekend. That was great. I got to play Bass and Tenor Dulcian, all sorts of recorders, Soprano Shawm, and even a little Krumhorn and Harp. They even offered me a job if I could get up there every weekend next summer (which I have no idea if I can.)
Now summer is fading fast. My summer job ends tommorrow and then I start packing and cleaning to go to school. Mom is having issues with her job right now...but I hope they work out because if she loses her job, I wont be able to come back to school in the fall (which would suck being only one year away from graduation.) Baring that, the fall should be a nice full semester. I am going to be taking an early music class, playing in the Wells EME, doing an independent study in something Baroque, doing an independent study in overhauling an old bari sax, Calculus, Math and Society, Lessons, Ensemble, Rep Class, and Ancient Art. If I get into Wind Ensemble (which I should because I was in orchestra last year) I get to go to Ireland for free for spring break too! Lets just hope I can get in.
So I probably left something out but if anybody bothered to get this far, they probably talk to me often enough to get any details I missed!
Have a beautiful day!
