I hadn’t quite intended on commenting on Julian Murphy’s eye-popping commentary on 5:13 because…well I thought it pretty much spoke eloquently for itself. But I reckoned of course without the formidable powers of denial and provocation within the Merlin fandom. And the nagging powers of
gatepromise :P So here I am again, dander up once more
Frankly, some of

I never came back to the forums, though I did see some astoundingly inane remarks on Tumblr. That they insisted Julian Murphy was joking/queer baiting/mocking M/A was ridiculous, I can't imagine anyone would save their last ever commentary of their own show for such triviality.
Because... um… ???? Merthur fans just… drove him over the edge??? Uh huh. With their …their… ? Nope I’ve run out of ideas as to why he’d do that actually. I welcome all believable suggestions.
How about he must have done it under the force of Arwen fans instead? The idea came because it was you who opened my eyes to their formidable aggression, by the way. :P
Pure? And this is the one remark of Julian's I’ve seen clung to like a lifebelt of 'platonic friendship' in a hostile ocean.
I shouldn't be surprised but... really?! Though admittedly when I heard the 'pure' word, the comparison with Morgana/Morgause didn't come to mind. I was thinking 'pure' as along the lines of complete infatuation with each other (and even sacrifice of self in the case of Merlin), as opposed to, say, Arthur loving Gwen half for political reasons and Gwen loving Arthur half because "I only want to be your QUEEN".
No matter. The show went out with a bang for us M/A fans, we had the most beautiful send-off and basis for future canon fics, beautiful reviews and articles, M/A confirmation from the cast and the producers, and just now the NTA to top it all. It has been a good month. ;) Except I can't get myself re-invested in SPN again. I think I downgraded myself into a casual SPN fan...!Why, Merlin, why???

The OAFQ stuff I just found funny because ...well the idea of it in fic reminded me of the depression after S4 when Arthur married Gwen and many people seemed to believe it spelled the end for Arthur/Merlin interaction and indeed Merthur fic. So it spawned alot of stories in which Arthur didnt marry Gwen to 'put it right', or Arthur and Gwen fell out of love or...something. I truly do understand that 'fix it' urge but I think a bit of realisation that that's what you're actually up to is needed? Maybe?
The Arwen fans Ive seen don't seem to admit that's what they're doing - ignoring canon and all that we were actually shown. The OAFQ is what they *wish* the programme makers had done, given they killed Arthur, just as Lancelot alive was what many of us wished the programme makers had done at the end of S4. But... well.. they didn't. The OAFQ is *entirely* the invention of Arwen fans. I dont quite understand the need to pretend though - Ive always been of the opinion its best to face up to whats actually there in canon.
Yeah, Ive seen alot of desperate revisionism over the 5.13 commentary - which speaks for itself. Again...'lets pretend he didnt say that' and then it wont be true.
The word 'pure' was what the Hypabale /ONTD Merlin reviewer appeared to use as 'proof' JM didnt mean anything 'dodgy' - because the idea of romantic love between two men, is, of course SO shocking it must be a joke. Sigh.
Ive never seen SPN- horrible admission!
I agree though - it was a very VERY good month :D
