Merlin: 5:13 The Diamond of the Day Part 2

Dec 24, 2012 19:09

I can honestly say that the last position I thought Id find myself in after 5.13 would be feeling defensive of it. Yet weirdly as I read forums and reviews pointing out its many flaws, or Arwen fans sniping that there was no goodbye with violins with specially imported backlit window and no kiss  cough I find myself almost bristling. Which is ( Read more... )

I was expecting much worse.

Can't write coherently right now but:
Magic reveal: good, though it proves they could have done it beautifully in the lapse of a season.
Morgana never takes a stroll without her pet snake that she transports in a trunk and has apparently been immortal all those seasons because she is… a high priestess……. O-kayyy
Poor Aithusa fucks off once again.
The Lake Has Changed, it has now an island with yet another tower in its middle… (good catch Freya, by the way)
“The king is dead long live the queen” all hail queen Mary-sue, winner of the Happy Ending, can rule the kingdom with Leon at her side now -_-
Gwaine bites the dust, but not Perceval. I was expecting them both to die when they stupidly took off after Morgana.
Why Old Merlin in the end?? *cries* (I'm chosing to believe it's a disguise and he can take his young appearence back at anytime but it still spoils the last scene :/)
But all the M/A scenes were perfect and if they could do that in the end, why, oh why could they not have done the entire season like that??? *sighs*

“just hold me” *cries*

Come on, cheer up, didn't you see how ambitious Leon is? He'll marry Gwen, and then once he's secure, he'll have her poisoned or sent to a nunnery.

Yes please!
But they even managed to do Battle Queen!Gwen, that was icing on the cake …

PMSL! No chance. They'll be very happy and the stunning dull couple in Albion. Mr and Mrs Moral Compass.

Nah! You don't survive all those death traps by being stunningly dull and moral. Leon is a BAMF. He's had enough of spending his days shouting "Sire!". And he won't be satisfied with being Prince Consort. He'll want an heir too, to make himself more stable. It would have to be his own heir, but how can he trust a known adultress? Not to mention he'd have to wait 9 months before bedding her, on the off chance that Arthur had finally realized how to make babies and left her pregnant.

So Gwen's got to go. She won't last a week after the wedding. She ended up in a nunnery in the legends, didn't she? There has to be a reason why we know nothing about the great and glorious reign of Queen Mary Sue, first female monarch of Camelot. We owe a lot to Good King Leon, who sadly was conquered within a few months of his reign by the hordes of CGI armies who annually invaded Camelot.

I have given a lot of thought to this. :)

I seriously wonder if maybe Angel and Rupert are a couple off screen, based on how many random moments are thrust in of them together onscreen this year.

I can't see her ruling long either. She's not of royal blood (something her stans want everyone to forget, but no one would in those times). I'm sure warlords and royalty everywhere would make a run for Camelot and challenge her right to the throne.

I've also seen quite a lot of fanfic about Merlin returning to Camelot to help her, but I can't see that happening either. It was never about Camelot for Merlin. He would stay near Avalon, waiting for Arthur. What if Arthur should wake while he isn't there?

It's certainly weird how much they implied Leon had a thing for Gwen this season.

I can't see Merlin returning to Camelot either; if he ever did, it would be for Gaius and absolutely not to help Gwen rule, I don't think he gives a shit about her (see ep 9 and how he wouldn't have minded in the least if she died) and since he wasn't in the coronation scene it's pretty much confirmed he never came back.
LOL now I have this picture in my head of Merlin waking in circles around the lake for a thousand years...and then the one day he goes shopping for clothes, Arthur comes out of the lake drenched and confused and Merlin finds him wandering about examining the pavement or something!

OMFG!! I am PMSL, that would make a great fanfic!

It's a consolation for me that even Queen Mary Sue couldn't have Emrys at her side.

Gwaine bites the dust, but not Perceval. I was expecting them both to die when they stupidly took off after Morgana.
To be fair, theirs was a good plan, it's just that the 'immune against mortal swords' bit was new... maybe. :(((

New and dumb. I thought the explanation was meant to be that Aithusa was healing her off-screen. Would have made more sense.

Are they seriously saying Morgana has been immortal all this time? As was Morgause? Was the blade Morgana used to kill Morgause also forged in a dragon's breath?

They probably already forgot who Morgause was at the time to take that into account. Hell, they forgot to mention how the box in 5.10 was supposed to help Merlin, and that was 3 weeks ago.

Though it's still possible that magic itself could also kill high-priestesses and Morgana was no immortal. Nimueh died by lightning after all.

Yes, but you're supposed to be too dumb to remember all these things!

If you were to list every single inconsistency against their own established canon, you'd be here till next Christmas.

I was surprised they didn't do a huge chucking each other against trees battle with Merlin, for Morgana's demise. Personally Im glad they didn't. The sooner they got a hook round her and yanked her offstage, the better for me. Bloody hell but she was tedious.

lol That would be so funny. I agree. For one thing, I always think the way they deal destructive magic is kind of lame and ridiculously looking. Looking back, all the magic moments I like are all about little things like the blue ball of light, blue butterfly and both flame-dragons. There's also something poetic about how all three were killed by a dragon forged blade that made Morgana's death by Excalibur fitting.

And yes Morgana was tedious. But I'm more angry at how Gwen has more screen time than her series-wise, when it should be Morgana who's supposed to have more relevance overall. They didn't dare to exclude Gwen for even one episode but Morgana was missing for how many? Though now that I've read darlulu's posts, I guess I can get behind the idea that they were trying to slowly deconstruct Arwen for the warhorse's final triumph (not that the warhorse needed it).

It was actually a good plan seeing as how Mordred stabbed her and it worked for a while. That was a new device Julian made up on the spot. Last ep...his rules.

Im glad Merlin didnt go back too somehow. Im not sure why. Though...Gaius... :(
